Knife River has excellent opportunities for growing their Asphalt Paving Road Crews! Our asphalt paving crews consist of the following - operation of pavers, screeds, rollers, distributors, as well as raking and shoveling of asphalt and other laboring duties. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:



  • Perform physical tasks in high traffic areas, for long periods of time, in all weather conditions
  • Operate heavy equipment related to asphalt paving
  • Place, shovel and rake materials with hand tools
  • Lift, carry tools and materials
  • Run plate whacker and jumping jack
  • Other duties assigned as needed
  • Control and guide machine to lay asphalt
  • Fill tanks or hoppers with paving materials
  • Spread and compact asphalt paving
  • Smooth out stone or concrete using special attachments
  • Ensure all machines are well-oiled, serviced, and inspected
  • Operate tamping machines or manually roll surfaces to compact and finish road materials, according to specifications
  • Operate other machines such as loaders
  • Push dump trucks to maintain flow of asphalt into hoppers
  • Drive or attach machines onto tractor trailers
  • Light burners on machines and regulate screed temperatures


Minimum/Preferred Qualifications:



  • Ability to work flexible shifts which include days, nights, some weekends and overtime
  • Ability to bend, stoop, lift, push, pull and be on your feet for long periods of time
  • Valid driver's license is preferred.
  • Assure all safety procedures are followed
  • Experience with asphalt paving.
  • Ability to operate different types of equipment is a plus
  • Bilingual is a plus
