Job Summary

With limited supervision, the Senior Telecommunications Engineer provides telecommunications cabling service and assistance to users in the Getty community. Assists all telecommunications and cabling.



Major Job Responsibilities

    Maintains and implements telecommunications access, security, and services
  • Monitors telecommunications for stability and proper configuration
  • Performs telecommunications reconfigurations, equipment installations, and upgrades
  • Provides work guidance, escalation, and training to lower-level specialists and contractors
  • Identifies chronic telecommunications problems and develop solutions/repairs
  • Regularly interacts with functional peer group, area supervisors or managers, and internal customers
  • Applies job skills and departmental policies and procedures to complete a wide range of complex tasks in creative and effective ways
  • May serve as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues
  • Adapts behavior and work methods, as needed, in response to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles
  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn and use new procedures and technology
  • Effectively handles multiple demands, shifting priorities, and rapid change
  • Contributes to projects based on areas of expertise
  • May orient, train, coach, assign, and check the work of associate service personnel


Qualifications

  • Associate college degree or equivalent in computer science preferred, or a combination of education and relevant experience
  • 5-8 years of related experience with voice and data communications and/or cabling
  • Experience installing and configuring telecommunications equipment and applying increasing complex diagnostic techniques for problem troubleshooting


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience in advanced installation, termination and troubleshooting of copper, coax, and fiber cabling systems; air-blown fiber experience a plus. Includes the physical installation of spools of fiber and copper cabling, use of tools and methods such as splicing and terminating and preferably fusion splicing.
  • Advanced coursework and training classes from BICSI with Installer Certification preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, with ability to communicate complex technical issues to non-technical users
  • Work is guided by supervisor yet, may act with little to no supervision to identify methods and procedures based upon expertise
  • Demonstrates the ability to express thoughts clearly, both orally and in writing
  • Listens and replies appropriately to others
  • Asks questions and offers input for positive results
  • Establishes Professional network within job to accomplish day-to-day tasks
