The College of Aviation at the Prescott, Arizona campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track faculty position in meteorology commencing January 2025 in support of our B. S. degrees in Applied Meteorology, Aeronautical Science, Aeronautics, Uncrewed Aircraft Systems, and Air Traffic Management.

Candidates with prior teaching experience and a broad background in meteorology are invited to apply. Applicants must be able to evidence a strong commitment to quality teaching. We especially encourage applications from candidates with experience in aviation or operational weather forecasting.

The successful candidate will join a team of three Ph.D. meteorologists and will be expected to teach the equivalent of four 3-credit hour courses per semester at the undergraduate level. The candidate is encouraged to pursue research/scholarship and will mentor undergraduate research projects. Current research interests within the department include mesoscale meteorology, the North American Monsoon, cloud physics, synoptic-dynamical meteorology and optical/microwave satellite remote sensing.

The curriculum for the Applied Meteorology degree program is published at https://catalog.erau.edu/prescott/aviation/bachelors/applied-meteorology/. One of the principal teaching responsibilities will be to instruct meteorology classes in support of our large and growing aviation programs, for which the candidate must be able to inspire students whose first love is not meteorology.

The successful candidate must also share the department's commitment to mentoring students on their course options and career pursuits, as well as service on university committees and in the larger community.

This is a nine-month non-tenure-track position with the possibility of summer teaching for additional pay and/or externally funded research.

Qualifications

Masters or PhD. in Meteorology Science - Preferred industry experience.

Excellent communication and mentoring skills, being willing to work one-on-one with air traffic program students.

Ideally, the applicant holds a master's or bachelor's degree, but with extensive work experience in the field, the requirement of a degree may be omitted.
