The University of Texas at Dallas has an excellent job opportunity for individuals looking to join the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science team as a Software Systems Specialist IV.
The position will provide expert technical assistance to the University of Texas at Dallas Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science (
ECS) Staff and Faculty. You will be part of the
ECS-IT Team responsible for supporting, designing, testing, and deploying third-party patches and software to all departmental-controlled desktops. |
Minimum Education and Experience |
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent IT certifications with 7 years of related work experience and 2 years of management experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable. |
Preferred Education and Experience |
Preferred Experience and Skills
- Advanced level Linux and Windows system administration experience
- MuseFS(similar technology) Configuration: Proficient in setting up and configuring MuseFS storage systems to meet organizational needs.
- Performance Optimization: In tuning MuseFS (similar technology) for optimal performance, including load balancing and resource allocation.
- Data Management: Skilled in managing large volumes of data within MuseFS (similar technology), ensuring data integrity and security.
- Backup and Recovery: Advanced knowledge of implementing backup and recovery solutions within MuseFS (similar technology) to protect against data loss.
- Advanced experience with VMware vCenter and a general understanding of virtualization.
BASH or Python scripting skills, including understanding, modifying, and creating scripts. Must have advanced Linux Administration Experience. Must have good written and verbal communication skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
- This lead position will provide expert technical assistance to the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science Staff and Faculty.
- Will lead design, test, and deploy third-party patches to all departmental-controlled server platforms.
- Part of ECS-IT helps secure and ensure that ECS Departments meet compliance benchmarks. This lead position will help the team develop other security benchmarks to improve backend server infrastructure processes.
- Lead a team of software systems specialists in testing, implementing, and documenting end-user computer security, patching, and software distribution.
- Additionally, this position will monitor system security and lead a team of software system specialists in addressing vulnerabilities and documenting system configurations and updates.
- Position will be considered to demonstrate leadership in a team of software system specialists, ensuring the seamless integration of new technologies and providing technical support and training to end-users.
- Lead the effort to assist end-users with software distribution, patching, and addressing vulnerabilities.
- Provide advanced-level scripting (PowerShell preferred), administrative practices (group policy, automatic deployment rules, compliance items), and best practices for patching and correcting vulnerabilities.
- Work to improve workflow and simplify everyday tasks (imaging, software installs)
- Manage network servers and technology tools.
- Upgrade and manage hardware and software.

Remote Notice: After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in-office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. You may be required to use a personal computer and other standard office equipment. Must be located within the
DFW Area and can be on campus within 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
