Description

West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU Tech) Social Sciences Program, Criminal Justice discipline, seeks to hire a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice.

WVU Tech is located in Beckley, West Virginia, and is a four-year regional campus within the West Virginia University system. WVU Tech has a student body of roughly 1000 full-time students, and the location in Beckley puts the university at the southern end of the newly minted New River Gorge National Park.

The potential applicant's area of specialization should be in the areas of corrections, including probation and parole. The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching established upper-level courses in the discipline as well as entry-level courses.

Responsibilities include a teaching minimum of twelve (12) credit or contact hours (generally four (4) courses) per semester; establishing and maintaining a research agenda; contributing to the assessment of student learning outcomes; advising and mentoring undergraduate students in select majors and/or minors; engage in campus-related initiatives to increase retention and enrollment; and engagement in service to the department, the campus, and the university as a whole.

Salary:
Commensurate with applicant education and experience.

Start Date:
The anticipated start date for this position is August 2025.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications (must be met by time of appointment):



  • Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, or a related field (such as Criminology or Administration of Justice), from an accredited institution by the time of appointment. A J.D. alone is not sufficient for this position.


Additional Preferred Qualifications:



  • At least two (2) years of teaching experience at the college or university level.
