Position Overview

The Nutrition Service Provider I will assist the Nutrition Service Team in completing daily requirements for food services per DPI/CACFP guidelines and follow guidelines from the Head Start Performance Standards. This position is either a 10-month or a 12-month position depending on site location.

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks



  • Assist the NSPII when necessary with meal preparation for children using portions and measurements according to CACFP guidelines.
  • Ensure that breakfast, lunch, and snacks are prepared and delivered according to the daily scheduled time.
  • Assist when needed with preparation of food on a daily basis.
  • Assist when needed with preparation of substitute foods for children with dietary accommodations.
  • Assist with putting away and storing food items once they are delivered.
  • Assist with stocking food service supplies.
  • Responsible for assembling and delivering dish tubs to each classroom.
  • Responsible for washing dishes after each meal served.
  • Assist with delivering all meals to the classrooms.
  • Set up for catering events and ensure that event food and supplies are delivered to the correct location and that they are delivered on time.
  • Work cooperatively with other employees and the general public, including families and children
  • Attend all mandatory trainings.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Knowledge of efficient use of kitchen appliances and equipment (dishwasher, microwave, etc.).
  • A minimum of six months experience working in a food service position or related duties handling foods and washing dishes.
  • Preferred possession of a current driver's license. Must be willing to work at other sites upon request.
  • Must possess current CPR certification at all times. If not certified upon hire, NDF will provide training
  • Must be willing to have a tuberculosis test at the time of hire and every 2 years thereafter.
  • Successfully pass a physical examination that verifies the employee is free from communicable disease and is physically able to perform required job responsibilities. Required every 2 years thereafter.
  • Successfully pass the Caregiver Background Check.



Special Position Requirements



  • Have a valid serve safe certification.
  • Have knowledge of FIFO.



Preferences



  • At least 6 months experience in a high volume, fast-paced kitchen.

  • Bending, stooping, kneeling, sitting on the floor, walking/transporting, handling, reaching, climbing, balancing, crouching, crawling, talking and speaking clearly, hearing conversation level, tasting, smelling and seeing.



Work Environment



  • Mainly kitchen setting with delivery of food to classrooms.
  • Occasional off site travel, when needed to work at a different site.
  • Ability to tolerate frequent changes in temperature, hot/cold



Personal/Physiological



  • Ability to make frequent, significant decisions to understand and react to the development process of children.
  • Ability to respond quickly and competently to an emergency or crisis situation in order to keep children and staff safe.
