Position: Quality Control Plant Technician - Certified

Pay Range: $20 - $24 per hour (Depending on experience and certifications)

Job Description:
Francis O. Day Co., Inc., a respected paving and excavation company that operates in Maryland and Virginia, is seeking a skilled Certified Quality Control Plant Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the quality and consistency of our asphalt products. This role involves routine inspections, equipment monitoring, and thorough documentation to maintain compliance with company standards and industry regulations. Candidates MUST hold a valid MD Plant Certification such as MARTCP.

Job Duties:
  • Conduct regular quality control checks during the asphalt production process.
  • Monitor and calibrate production equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Maintain accurate records of test results and production data.
  • Assist with troubleshooting production issues and recommending corrective actions.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to streamline operations.
  • Report discrepancies and provide feedback to management for continuous improvement.

Requirements:
  • 2-3 years of experience in Quality Control or Plant Operations within the Asphalt or Construction Materials industry is required.
  • VA or MD plant certification is required.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents and quality control guidelines.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Capable of working independently and in a team environment.
  • Flexibility to work either day or night shifts.

Work Environment:
The QC Plant Technician will work in a dynamic and physically demanding environment at an asphalt production facility. The work setting includes both indoor and outdoor conditions, with exposure to varying weather elements such as heat, cold, rain, and wind. The role requires working near heavy machinery, conveyor belts, and high-temperature materials, requiring strict adherence to safety protocols.

Technicians will frequently navigate uneven surfaces, climb ladders, and access elevated areas to perform sampling and testing. The work involves standing for extended periods, lifting materials or equipment, and operating testing instruments in a lab and field setting. Dust, noise, and odors from asphalt materials are common in the environment, making the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) essential.

This role requires attention to detail in fast-paced conditions, working both independently and as part of a team to ensure quality control standards are met. Occasionally, the technician may be required to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, or overtime to meet production demands.
