Role Description

The Research and Development group at Zoetis has a track record of success in discovering and marketing novel parasiticides for companion animals and livestock. The Parasitology Research team is seeking a motivated veterinary parasitology scientist, with a keen interest in the discovery and development of novel parasiticides. The successful applicant will coordinate the generation and development of ideas for new parasiticides and support the execution of current parasiticide projects, representing the group on multi-disciplinary teams.

Job Scope:

The successful candidate is expected to:

  • Participate in research and development project teams to discover, develop, and license veterinary parasiticides. Support the Unit Head to deliver the portfolio.
  • Provide expertise within and across functions in the field of parasitology.
  • Provide scientific input into refinement of parasite existing models or development of novel models to facilitate project progression. Assist in developing, writing, and maintaining Animal Use Protocols.
  • Provide ad-hoc support to ongoing studies, as needed.
  • Provide leadership on complex issues that require innovative solutions.
  • Independently generate and evaluate ideas for novel parasiticides together with other GT parasitology research scientists and Global Commercial Development (GCD) representatives.
  • Interact with Zoetis regulatory affairs representatives and the Center of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), to ensure that projects have the appropriate regulatory support as they progress.
  • Publish and present results to facilitate the objectives of Zoetis, both internally and to external scientific audiences.
  • Guide, lead, and/or participate in multi-disciplinary teams and work in close collaboration with a range of scientists and clinicians across the organization. Train/mentor other scientists.
  • May serve as a project team leader and be responsible for appropriate communication of plans, studies, results, and interpretation to teams and governance bodies.
  • Liaise with GCD to represent GT parasitology research and VMRD interests. Develop a strategic understanding of the Zoetis parasiticide business and how GT and VMRD interact across the business units.
  • Develop a network of relationships with key opinion leaders and represent Zoetis in various function in scientific parasitology organizations.
  • Travel may be required.

Education and experience

The successful candidate will have the following degrees and experience:

  • Degree in Veterinary Medicine or relevant science degree; board certification is a considered a plus.
  • Profound understanding of scientific research principles and interpretation of research results, preferably demonstrated by PhD or 4 years of equivalent experience.
  • Work experience with Good Clinical Practice for Veterinary Trials (GCP) and/or Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
  • Experience working in an industry environment is considered as a plus.
  • Active participation in scientific (preferably veterinary) research projects. Experience with livestock parasitology research is considered a plus.
  • An understanding of veterinary drug development, and in particular anti-parasitic drug development.

Technical abilities:

  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong ability to organize, plan, and prioritize effectively, in a self-directed manner.
  • Ability to work on different concurrent studies and projects.
  • Ability to generate and drive team results.
  • Excellent presentation and writing skills.
  • Strong team player.
  • Interpersonal and multi-cultural savvy, as demonstrated by the ability to work effectively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
