Recruit, screen, interview, select, orient, teach, supervise and evaluate CPE Interns. Conduct some of the didactics and verbatim sessions for CPE Residents. Offer significant assistance with orientation for CPE Residents. Assist with, and in some cases have primary responsibility for, administrative functions related to the CPE program. Other tasks as assigned by Manager of Chaplaincy Services. Maintain the standards of the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. (ACPE), which "is a multicultural, multifaith organization devoted to improving the quality of ministry and pastoral care offered by spiritual caregivers of all faiths through the educational method of CPE."

As a Staff Chaplain provides spiritual care to patients, families, staff and volunteers, and in this role assesses the spiritual/religious/emotional needs of individuals and develops care plans for addressing those needs either directly or indirectly. Coordinate additional chaplaincy care at assigned location as requested by Manager of Chaplaincy Services.

As a skilled pastoral care giver, communicates in the context of the other person's frame of reference, both with patients and their families, and colleagues.

Job Description

  • Manages all applications and correspondence related to the CPE Internship
  • Recruits, screens, interviews, and selects all CPE Interns.

  • Plans and implements CPE Intern orientation.

  • Evaluates CPE Interns according to the ACPE standards

  • Plan, organize, teach and supervise Clinical Pastoral Education intern program (extended unit)

  • Conducts some of the CPE Residents' didactics and verbatim sessions, as coordinated with Chaplaincy Manager.

  • Work effectively with a diverse student group and diverse patient population

  • Provides significant assistance with Resident Orientation , to Chaplaincy Manager

  • Administrative functions as assigned by Chaplaincy Manager
  • Provides for the spiritual/religious needs of patients, families, staff and volunteers at the Elkins Park campus which includes acute care patients and Moss Rehab inpatients.
  • Assesses spiritual and emotional needs, and responds to discovered needs in an appropriate manner.
  • Participates in/supervises and/or facilitates support groups for patients, families and staff.
  • Works cooperatively with staff chaplains and staff from other disciplines as a member of the healthcare team.
  • Maintains endorsement in good standing in his/her faith group.
  • Maintains continuing education through academic studies, seminars and workshop experiences. Participates in appropriate professional organizations.
  • Works in a collegial relationship with clergy of all faiths.
  • Helps to maintain good working relationships with community religious organizations and seminaries, to establish and/or maintain a multifaith multicultural CPE program grounded in a Jewish model of pastoral care.
  • Participates in Network committees as assigned.
  • Might assist in providing in-service education for Network staff related to CPE and chaplaincy/pastoral care issues.
  • Supports the department goal of being a place in which differences are accepted and valued among staff and participants in all department programs.
  • Participates in activities that expand knowledge of cultures, ethnic groups and religions
  • Maintains departmental relationships through constructive, open and honest sharing.

QULIFICATIONS:

  • ACPE Certification as an ACPE Certified Educator.
  • Minimum of Master's Degree in related field.
  • Certified Chaplain with APC, NACC, or NAJC.
  • Experience developing, supervising and managing an accredited CPE program. Experience working with a diverse student group and a diverse patient population.
  • Experience working as part of a patient's care team.
  • Knowledge of major faith groups, pastoral theology, dynamics of loss and grief, and of crisis theory and intervention is necessary.
  • Experience and comfort with use of technology.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
