Job Description

The University of Missouri - St. Louis (UMSL) Center for Teaching and Learning team is seeking a motivated and collaborative Instructional Designer III to support faculty in designing and delivering engaging and effective online courses. The Instructional Designer III will assist with course development, promote best practices in online teaching, and ensure courses align with established quality standards. This role is ideal for candidates with at least 2-3 years of experience in instructional design, preferably in higher education, who are eager to contribute to innovative online learning experiences.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Online Course Design and Development

  • Collaborate with faculty to create and enhance online courses, incorporating effective instructional design principles.
  • Assist in developing course materials, activities, and assessments that align with learning objectives.
  • Support the integration of multimedia and interactive elements to enhance student engagement.

2. Faculty Support and Training

  • Provide faculty with resources and training to improve online teaching skills.
  • Conduct one-on-one consultations and group workshops to address instructional design and technology needs.
  • Serve as a point of contact for questions and troubleshooting related to online course development.

3. Quality Assurance and Course Review

  • Review online courses to ensure alignment with institutional quality standards and best practices.
  • Provide constructive feedback to faculty to support continuous course improvement.
  • Assist in maintaining course templates and resources for consistent quality across programs.

4. Technology Integration

  • Recommend and support the use of instructional technologies that enhance learning.
  • Collaborate with IT and LMS administrators to address technical challenges and implement new tools.
  • Stay informed about emerging educational technologies and share insights with the team.

5. Collaboration and Professional Development

  • Work closely with colleagues in the instructional design team and academic departments to support institutional goals.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to remain current in instructional design practices and online education trends.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. The University will not sponsor applicants for this position for employment visas.

Shift

40 hours/week with opportunity for four 10-hour days as flexible schedule option.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field
  • Knowledge of quality standards frameworks (e.g., Quality Matters).
  • Experience in accessibility compliance and universal design for learning (UDL).
  • Interest in exploring emerging technologies such as AR/VR or adaptive learning systems.
  • Proficiency in instructional design tools and software (e.g., Articulate, Camtasia, Adobe Captivate).
Anticipated Hiring Range

$51,875.20 - $73,008.00
