JOB TYPE Classification: Nonexempt Supervises Positions: No JOB SUMMARY Responsible for any combination of Tumor Registry functions including case finding, abstracting, follow-up, monitoring, and statistical reporting of all reportable benign and malignant neoplasms diagnosed or treated in UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper facilities. Patient Care: Applies accepted clinical and nursing principles and practices to patient care activities in the facility.
Compliance: Reviews policies/procedures and implements recommendations to ensure continued compliance with state, federal, and accrediting body rules, regulations, and standards.
Quality: Enforces clinical and nursing practice standards and licensing/accreditation rules and regulations to provide quality patient care.
The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Education: 2 Year/Associate Degreerequired. Cancer information management. Experience: Pervious experience in tumor registry preferred.Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details. Licensure: Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) required. Additional Skills/Requirements Required:Advanced level of medical terminology. Completion of Anatomy and Physiology, basic Statistics and epidemiology. Oncology knowledge of the disease process, including standards of care; surgical, radiation, and systemic treatment regimens. Knowledge of the American College of Surgeons Cancer Program Standards. Coding Courses in ICD0-3, Standards for Oncology Registry Entry, AJCC TNM Staging, SEER Summary Staging, Solid Tumor Rules, State Cancer Collection & Reporting Manual. Ability to communicate effectively with tact and diplomacy with Medical Staff, Novant Departments, private physician offices and non-Novant facilities to obtain patient information and resolve staging issues. Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: Computer skills in databases: data entry experience with Electronic Registry Systems Inc., Epic, facility anatomic pathology system, Radiology, Varian, Mosaic, and other e-records that become available. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Physical Demand Code: 6A, Customer Care Work Function/Activity: Sedentary to Light Physical Demand The job requires frequent sitting and standing, occasional walking, and bending/stooping. Frequent repetitive arm, hand, and finger movements. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
