Compensation Range: $59,712K to $66,347k, based on experience.

Job Objectives:

Responsible for interior and exterior repair, maintenance and upgrade projects of homes owned by The Salvation Army Territorial Headquarters and the Territorial Headquarters building.

Essential Functions:

This job description is not all inclusive. It is intended to identify the essential duties of the position. Other duties, responsibilities and tasks may be assigned.



  • Complete general maintenance work
  • Perform renovations of living space including bathroom, kitchen, and wall-framing
  • Perform walk-through assessments and prepare cost estimates for repairs that require external contractors/trades people
  • Perform basic repairs, including but not limited to general plumbing, electrical, HVAC, wall damage, broken windows, etc.
  • Move heavy furniture, appliances and equipment
  • Assist necessary trades with electrical, plumbing and HVAC repair work
  • Take on installation, repair and maintenance duties as needed
  • Follow workplace health and safety rules
  • Coordinate service with Salvation Army officers and handle concerns professionally
  • Provide snow removal at designated buildings
  • Accurately log job details and hours


Minimum Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education & Certification:

High school education or equivalent

Experience

Five+ years as a handy worker/service worker

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Must be self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision and direction
  • Possess or able to possess necessary license(s)
  • Valid drivers' license, clean driving record
  • Basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry and HVAC
  • Good working knowledge of the use of hand and power tools
  • Be able to demonstrate knowledge and skill to perform handy worker tasks
  • Knowledge of basic home repair and maintenance
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking and problem-solving skills
  • Able to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Friendly with good interpersonal skills



Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Position will direct the work of both Salvation Army and external contractor maintenance workers that are needed to assist in various projects

Travel:

Local travel within 70 miles of territorial headquarters building in Hoffman Estates.

Lifting, pulling, and pushing of materials over 25 pounds up to 50% of a work day. Requires bending, squatting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, climbing stairs and ladders, reaching above shoulder level and walking; May stand and walk for extended periods of time. Vision requirement: Depth perception and color vision.

Working Conditions:

Job requires working on unprotected heights and uneven ground, being around moving machinery and equipment, exposure to inclement weather conditions, electrical current, acids and solvents. Exposure to dirt, grease, dust, fumes, vibration and noise not exceeding 85 decibels on average; May require weekend and evening work
