Position Summary

DEFINITION:

Under supervision of Technical Services Supervisor, in Information Technology Services, the incumbent will perform highly technical and professional work in the planning, organizing and coordinating the support of the district's high-end audiovisual (AV) installation, maintenance, configuration, troubleshooting and repair of instructional and institutional AV systems; assist staff in their use; and perform functions related to providing AV support of district events to include off-campus programs . Values and promotes the mission and vision of the college.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:

The incumbent, under minimal supervision, will act as the lead audiovisual technical support for Santa Maria, Lompoc Valley, VAFB and Santa Ynez Valley Center locations. The major responsibility of this position is to coordinate and assist in the installation and maintenance of the district's high-end audiovisual (AV) installations. Incumbents are expected to solve technical problems with the use of AV software, AV equipment substitution, good judgment and technical expertise. The incumbent will have knowledge of AV design requirements, setup, operation and maintenance of system hardware and software and the related infrastructure of the audiovisual, multimedia systems and presentation equipment.


Essential Functions and Qualifications

  1. Based upon technology requirements designs, plans, and specifies necessary interfacing electronic equipment and materials for Smart Classrooms and other District environments for remodel or new construction.
  2. Provides technical specifications for the design during production phase of the District Standard high-tech classrooms, and laboratories and very special unique AV / presentations systems for all old, new, and remodel construction and/or for portable venue setups.
  3. Generates AutoCAD or the equivalent schematics for signal flow diagrams of AV design systems for classrooms/labs installations.
  4. Oversee as the Administrator to a complex comprehensive GVE server-based AV resource management software for remotely controlling, monitoring, manage, report and diagnose connected AV equipment and AV systems district wide.
  5. Interfaces with Application Engineers, Software Application Engineers and Control Systems Support personnel for technical support and repairs.
  6. As the GlobalViewer Enterprise Server Administrator, assigns different ITS help desk users different GVE interfacing privileges per experience and qualifications in AV support.
  7. Interact with the college's Audio-Visual district standard equipment manufactures as required.
  8. Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot Audio Visual equipment such as Extron switches, controllers, scalers, and DTP / MTP Tx & Rx units using various AV software.
  9. Monitor a wide variety of AV equipment and AV systems for critical firmware updates.as the GlobalViewer Enterprise Server Administrator.
  10. Be knowable and have experience in configuring AV equipment with Global Configurator, 3.5.2 or later, Global Configurator Plus and as the Server Administrator for GlobalViewer Enterprise.
  11. Remotely or physically monitors Smart Classrooms in order to assist faculty in troubleshooting.
  12. Acts as District AV Technician for the Consultant and Architect relating to the Project AV Systems and District AV Standards during building construction.
  13. Designs training materials and user manuals for new/existing equipment.
  14. Conducts training and professional development workshops on the use of Smart Classrooms.
  15. Consults on AV needs, set-up and integration for special events and projects.
  16. Uses electronic diagnostic equipment as required for troubleshooting electronic AV equipment, AV systems, hardware, software and related infrastructure to include PoE devices.
  17. Take reservations, delivers, positions, and operates sound systems and other AV presentation equipment to support instructional and institutional activities.
  18. Trains and supervises student workers.
  19. Maintains equipment manuals and warranty data; identifies and prepares orders for supplies and parts and maintains parts inventory to ensure operational status of equipment.
  20. Performs other related duties as required.

Knowledge of:

  • Basic computer, laptop and iPad operations including file management, installation of components and peripherals;
  • AV software such as Extron Software, GlobalViewer Enterprise 2.8, Global Configurator, 3.5.2 or later and Global Configurator Plus;
  • Procedures for maintenance of inventory records and supplies;
  • Appropriate safety precautions and procedures.;

Demonstrated ability to:

  • Manage a complex GVE data center environment of Audio-Visual devices district wide;
  • Provide technical support over the phone, by email and in person with a professional demeanor;
  • Analyze data, equipment and draw sound conclusions to determine what repairs are needed;
  • Manage and have the skill set to maintain critical firmware updates on AV equipment;
  • Install, replace and repair all types of AV equipment;
  • Maintain necessary records;
  • Read and interpret technical manuals related to AV equipment, computers and media equipment;
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions and specifications;
  • Understand instructional capabilities of various AV equipment and AV systems;
  • Provide sound equipment, schedule, and operate sound and other audiovisual equipment.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Strength: medium work; lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling 25-50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting, pushing and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Work requires standing for prolonged periods.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Possession of or equivalent to an associate degree or higher in computer science or information systems, electrical engineering, or the equivalent AND at least two years' experience or certification and demonstrated knowledge of (GVE 2.8.1, GC Plus 3.5.0, GC 3.5.2 or later) in highly skilled technical AV systems and AV equipment, of networking, cabling, networking A.V. devices, system configuration and support.

License and Certificates Required:

Possession of a valid and appropriate California driver's license and qualify for district vehicle insurance coverage.


Additional Information

The desired start date is July 2025. This is a full-time, 37-hour, classified, 12-month position.

Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
