The Glass Center at UC San Diego serves both campus and external community practitioners in various methods of studio glass, as well as individuals through all sectors interested in arts or artistic pursuits. Under the direction of the Senior Director of the Craft and Glass Centers, the Assistant Director of the Glass Center oversees the general administration of the Glass Center and its four studios including the Hot Shop, Cold Shop, Flame Shop and Kiln-formed Glass Studio. Responsible for implementing the organization's dynamic programmatic vision and for leading a team of year-round staff to ensure smooth operation of educational and campus activation programs. Under the direction of the Senior Director of Craft and Glass Centers, oversee program development, and facility preparation and maintenance necessary to fully activate the Glass Center. The Assistant Director of the Glass Center is responsible for the daily operations of the Glass Center including personnel management, studio management, budget stewardship, inventory management, workload management and coordinating space and resource needs. Establishes and maintains/manages/oversees maintenance of safety protocols in coordination with campus's Environmental Health and Safety unit (EH&S) including providing regular safety trainings for all instructors and staff. Develops and implements studio and equipment evaluation and maintenance schedule. Incumbent uses skills as an experienced administrative professional with excellent communication skills to manage, plan and administer the daily operations of a mid-sized non-academic arts program department. Reports to and collaborates with multiple stakeholders and leaders on the operations, growth and development of these programs. Perform short- and long-term planning for the organization. Supervises, trains and supports instructors, staff and students. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Assists the Senior Director of Craft and Glass Centers to develop and maintain links with campus units, external arts and educational organizations and other relevant organizations effectively and diplomatically representing the Glass Center. This position has fiscal responsibility for Glass Center providing comprehensive financial management and analysis. Oversees the development, administration, monitoring and analysis of the operational budgets, gift funds, revenue funds, recharge activity and all other daily financial transactions. Responsible for funding analysis and budget projection. Under the guidance of the Senior Director of Craft and Glass Centers, the incumbent directs and oversees daily operations and resources toward an effective self-supporting Glass Center, including budgets, grants and gifts, marketing, scheduling, reporting, personnel and departmental organization. Analyzes relevant data and research to inform direction and day-to-day decisions. Acting as the liaison for the Glass Center, participates in long-range plans for studio courses by representing the Glass Center at meetings with staff groups and external community groups, in an effort to facilitate the continued development of educational programming and meet the interdepartmental inter-sectional goals of the University and the greater University external community. Manages the quarterly planning, scheduling, publishing, implementation, and evaluation of programs and courses in the Glass Center. Oversees development of new course curricula and updates or recommends updates to existing course content or other offerings. Ensures that the offerings are a combination of foundational subjects and timely, fresh artistic perspectives, reflecting the changing interests and challenges of the various fields. Additional duties include ongoing instructor recruiting, student and instructor advising, promotional planning for all audiences, student, staff and the San Diego community at large, periodic program and course evaluation adjustment and responding to complex programmatic issues. Contributes to strategic marketing plans to expand broad and varied internal and external community participation. Oversees the development of marketing and promotional materials and coordinates marketing and engagement events. In conjunction with other stakeholders, participates in long-range strategic planning. Manages daily operations of the Glass Center with a mission-driven spirit of collaboration, community service, and entrepreneurialism. Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $77,000 - $139,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $36.88 - $66.67 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
