Position Summary

The Software Lead Engineer position serves as a vital member of the Oceaneering Technologies (OTECH) group. This position will functionally manage and lead small software teams responsible for a program or portfolio.
OTECH produces and maintains unique underwater systems - typically for US Navy and other US Government Department of Defense customers. Our projects are all one-of-a-kind. Projects range from quick burn to lifecycle management of fielded systems. This position would manage the execution of software efforts and deal with internal and external programmatic software related needs. The ideal candidate already has experience leading small robotic software teams on DoD programs.


Duties And Responsibilities
  • Apply working knowledge of the software lifecycle to follow required processes while leading and managing your software team.
  • Actively interface with the electrical and mechanical leads, program management and external stakeholders to ensure project needs are met.
  • Ensure project CDRL's are delivered and accepted by the customer. This includes requirements, design documentation, software safety testing, software qualification testing and software release artifacts.
  • Understand program concept of operations and effects of engineering design choices.
  • Respond to program management and customer requests and appropriately prioritize tasking.
  • Draft statements of work and work estimates.
  • Function as a software representative at customer meetings, including preparing and or presenting reports.
  • Report on team progress while creating and executing plans to address emergent issues.
  • Functionally manage and mentor your team of direct reports.
  • Handle resource allocation needs for your program.
  • Schedules can be demanding throughout the year and occasional work outside normal working hours should be anticipated.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL:

  • BS Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline. Commensurate experience will be considered.
  • 10+ years of practical experience in software, including previous experience managing software teams or efforts.
  • Experience with the following programming languages: C, C++ and/or C#.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft 365 environment.
  • Solid written and oral communications skills, including ability to effectively document, convey, and present engineering concepts and products to team members and customers.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a United States Government Department of Defense Security Clearance.
  • Must be a US citizen.

PREFERRED:

  • Experience in the field of ocean engineering or fielded DoD products.
  • Experience with Linux OS on single-board computer (SBC) systems.
  • Experience with Qt or ROS.
  • Experience creating and managing CI/CD pipelines using Github or Artifactory.
  • Previous Control Account Management (CAM) and Earned Value Management System (EVMS) duties.

We offer a comprehensive and competitive benefits package. Annualized Pay rate for this position : $145,000- $195,500.
