Position Summary
The Energy Credit Underwriter delivers detailed quantitative and qualitative credit analysis and underwriting for energy loan requests. The Underwriter works with Energy Bankers and Portfolio Managers to understand and measure the risk associated with both new and existing client relationships and to create loan structures to mitigate these risks. This role prepares detailed documents summarizing loan opportunities with minimal turn-around times and recommends to Bankers, Portfolio Managers, and Credit Officers.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Complete formal credit loan approval memos including preparing a cash flow model and other financial spreadsheets and analysis.
  • Prepare detailed financial memos on prospective loan requests.
  • Accurately calculate financial ratios and monitor Borrower's covenants for compliance as outlined in loan documents.
  • Analyze and assess financial statements and credit history of existing and potential clients to ensure loans are appropriately structured and meet credit requirements for lending quality and compliance as determined by the Bank's Credit Policy.
  • Partner with Bankers, Portfolio Managers, and Credit Officers in managing loans and pipeline.
  • Use independent judgement by identifying primary risks, issues and mitigants regarding extensions of credit.
  • Participate in client site visits, client prospect calls, and in internal loan discussions to remain actively involved in structuring client loans.
  • Monitor loan agreement covenants and borrowing base compliances and report exceptions.
  • Assist in reports on overall energy portfolio, including assessing asset quality, stress testing, market analysis, and risk analysis.
  • Exercise pre-approval and post-approval actions.
  • Utilize diverse data analysis processes, techniques, and tools to analyze and interpret property related data .
  • Provide feedback and guidance to Credit Monitoring Analysts regarding analytical approaches and techniques.
  • Build trusted, collaborative and supporting relationships with internal and external business partners.
  • Interact with internal and external clients while providing extraordinary service.
  • Develop and maintain trusted, collaborative and supporting relationships with other employees, clients, and vendors.
  • Represent the Bank and Energy team in a highly professional manner.
  • Complete job assignments in a professional, timely and efficient manner; organize and prioritize work.
  • Maintain confidentiality; adhere to CrossFirst Bank policies and procedures; comply with laws, regulations and industry best practices.
  • Reliable and predictable attendance; both onsite and remote.


Education & Experience

  • Basic knowledge of financial statements.
  • Basic understanding of Energy products and of risk profiles in energy borrower's operations and general industry knowledge preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of financial statement analysis and demonstrated ability to identify and mitigate key risks preferred.
  • PC experience in a Windows environment, Word, and advanced spreadsheet experience on Excel is required.
  • Bachelor's degree with exposure to Accounting, Finance or Business courses is preferred or equivalent work experience.


Compensation and Benefits

Salary offered is based on factors, including but not limited to, the job duties, required qualifications and relevant experience, and local market trends. The role may be eligible for bonus or incentives based on company and individual performance.

(Base Pay Range: $75,000-$90,000 annually)
