About the Job

Position Summary:

The Department of Sociology in the College of Liberal Arts occasionally hires part-time and/or short-term employees (Temporary/Casual, Job Code 0001) to provide administrative, communications, and events support, as assigned and in consultation with center directors and program coordinators. These are part-time temporary or casual positions. Temporary positions are limited to 67 days or fewer of work in a calendar year. Casual positions can work 14 or fewer hours each week; and are not limited to 67 days of work in a calendar year.

This posting does not constitute an announcement of open positions but is used to establish a pool of applicants should openings occur during academic year 2024/25 and summer 2025. Applications will not be acknowledged upon receipt and will only be reviewed should openings occur. Appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance.

Job Responsibilities:
1) The job duties could include assisting with webpage updates, preparing documents, and PowerPoint presentations.
2) Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
* BA/BS or a combination of related education and work experience as well as completion of prior coursework in sociology.
* Relevant skills and experience that relate to the temporary position we need to fill. This could include any of the following areas of expertise: administration, communications, community engagement, event support and logistics, technology support and training, and research.
* Excellent computer skills in Google and Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Previous experience working for the department.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills to include proofreading, spelling, and grammar.
* Proven ability to work independently.
* Excellent organizational skills, and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced work environment.
* Prior experience with electronic calendaring.

The Department of Sociology consists of 25 faculty, over 50 graduate students, and over 500 undergraduate majors. We are one of the premier departments in the College of Liberal Arts, and we offer stimulating courses, conduct renowned, cutting-edge research, and are leaders in public sociology. Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $15.25-$20.00 per hour depending on education/qualifications/experience.
