Position Description

Controls heat-treating furnaces, baths and quenching equipment to alter physical and chemical properties of metal objects, using specifications and methods of controlled heating and cooling, such as hardening, tempering, annealing, case-hardening, and normalizing: Determines temperature and time of heating cycle, and type and temperature of baths and quenching medium to attain specified hardness, toughness, and ductility of parts, using standard process specs and utilizing knowledge of heat-treating methods, equipment, and properties of metals.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Adjusts furnace controls and observes pyrometer to bring furnace to prescribed temperature

  • Loads parts into furnace

  • Removes parts after prescribed time and quenches parts or allows parts to cool in air

  • Test hardness of parts

  • Align warped shafts, using hydraulic ram straightener

  • May adapt new procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment to meet the more complex requirements, functions of the position

  • Resolves most questions and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher levels

  • May periodically assist in orienting, training, assigning and checking the work of other employees

  • Participate in process improvement and safety program participation

  • Under moderate supervision, perform varied tasks of intermediate complexity including reading and understanding of blueprints and Bills of Material and completion of documentation

  • Performs routine maintenance such as TPM's

  • Utilizes safe working habits and is conscientious to not endanger self, others, equipment, or property. Maintains work areas in a neat and orderly manner to minimize unsafe conditions

  • Strives to maintain high personal productivity level and performs other related duties as assigned as well as training other employees when necessary

  • Communicate effectively with leadership of pertinent issues related to daily work( job status, back log, machine tooling issues) and help drive permanent resolution

  • Other duties as needed such as rotating on call

  • Be able to perform all lab work per engineering print

Skills & Abilities Required

  • Ability to follow and interpret blueprints/ 3D models

  • Self-motivated, energetic, dependable, honest and thorough

  • Attention to detail and process oriented

  • Team attitude, eager to cooperate with others and help move team projects and improvement efforts forward

  • Ability to adapt and handle multiple tasks on a regular basis

  • Willing to put in the extra effort when needed including weekends/ overtime to make customer commitments

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Technical / Business School Certificate, Skilled Trades Apprenticeship or other post high school training is a plus

  • 5-7 years of experience

  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds

  • Mechanical background and proven mechanical aptitude

  • Practice Lean manufacturing/six sigma methodology to maintain best in class work space, safety, and preventative maintenance

  • Relentlessly drive for improvements in safety, quality, and process improvementof qualified candidates.

Compensation Details

Hourly: $26.00 - $35.00

Additional Compensation

The hourly range for this position is $26 - $35. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. Sundyne considers various factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education and training, key skills, as well as market and business considerations.
