Salary Range: Grade 5

Only candidates with and an LPC or LCSW will be considered.

General Statement of Duties:

The Veterans Therapist is a key member of a multidisciplinary team, providing individual, family, and group counseling to Veterans, their beneficiaries, and support systems. The therapist will utilize a wraparound service model, collaborating closely with peer support specialists to meet the diverse needs of clients. This approach emphasizes comprehensive care that extends beyond therapy to include connection to vital community resources.

This hybrid position allows for two remote workdays per week, but requires the therapist to meet with clients in person as needed and participate in team meetings. The role demands familiarity with contractual requirements, including grant expectations and timely reporting. The therapist will primarily focus on helping clients navigate and manage mental health challenges such as trauma, depression, anxiety, anger, and interpersonal issues, using evidence-based treatment strategies.

Employment in this role is contingent upon continued funding for the program and the therapist's performance.

Essential Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Therapeutic Counseling: Provide individual, family, and group therapy to Veterans, their beneficiaries, and civilians. Treatment is focused on trauma recovery, mental health stabilization, and life skill development across diverse client populations.
  2. Comprehensive Assessments: Conduct initial intake assessments to determine client needs and collaboratively develop personalized treatment plans tailored to each individual's unique challenges and goals.
  3. Evidence-Based Therapies: Use a variety of evidence-based therapeutic models, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Trauma-Informed Care to treat clients with mental health and behavioral issues.
  4. Client Progress Monitoring: Administer and interpret various screening tools to track client progress toward treatment goals and adjust plans accordingly. Evaluate clients' emotional, psychological, and social functioning to ensure the ongoing relevance of interventions.
  5. Psychoeducational Groups: Design and facilitate psychoeducational groups for Veterans, their families, and civilians, focusing on mental health topics such as stress management, anger control, and coping with trauma.
  6. Clinical Collaboration: Participate in weekly clinical case staffing and peer consultation meetings to discuss complex cases, receive professional feedback, and enhance clinical skills. Collaborate with other mental health professionals and agencies to ensure holistic care.
  7. Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate, up-to-date client records including progress notes, treatment plans, and outcome measures. Complete required monthly reports and funding-related documentation in a timely manner to comply with grant expectations.
  8. Referral Coordination: Ensure that clients are connected to a comprehensive range of community services, including psychiatric care, housing, healthcare, and other essential support services. Act as a liaison between clients and local resources, advocating for appropriate services based on individual needs.
  9. Eligibility Verification: Verify the eligibility of Veterans and beneficiaries for services, ensuring appropriate governmental documentation and compliance with funding requirements.
  10. Advocacy & Empowerment: Act as an advocate for Veterans and their families, helping to remove barriers to care and promoting the empowerment of clients to make informed decisions about their treatment.
  11. Trauma & Risk Identification: Identify Veterans suffering from PTSD, TBI, anger issues, and suicidal ideation, and implement evidence-based strategies to address these challenges in a therapeutic setting.
  12. Community Collaboration: Build and maintain strong relationships with veteran-serving agencies, healthcare providers, and community organizations to ensure a coordinated approach to Veteran care. Organize and participate in community outreach and training events to raise awareness about available resources.
  13. Client Tracking & Follow-Up: Conduct regular follow-up communications with clients to ensure continuity of care and to track long-term outcomes, helping clients stay on track with their treatment goals.
  14. Administrative Support: Assist in the preparation of various administrative documents, including reports, correspondence, and presentations for both internal and external stakeholders, as well as grant funders.
  15. Public Engagement: Represent the agency at public events, including presentations on Veteran benefits, eligibility programs, and mental health services, aiming to raise awareness and engage the community.
