Environmental Planner

Mead & Hunt is currently looking for a highly motivated individual to join our Transportation team as an Environment Planner. This opportunity is available at either our Lexington or Charleston, SC office.

Responsibilities include:

• Uses the planning process to help develop long-range improvement plans.
• Conducts research to identify data, policies, regulations, current laws and standards, permits, and best practices to determine project opportunities and constraints.
• Assists with analysis, preparation, or modification of project materials for planning projects, including writing, mapping, displays, and graphic tasks.
• Assists with gathering, organizing, and interpreting data relevant to project assignments.
• Participates in field work (field inspection, wetland/stream delineations, and natural resource identification services) to assess and document existing conditions, opportunities, and constraints; and prepares a summary of information collected.
• Prepares reports documenting field investigations and analytical results.
• Assists with identifying design solutions, preparing concept plans, cost estimates, and technical documents under the direction of a supervisor or Project Manager.
• Attends project coordination meetings and draft meeting summaries or technical memorandums as requested by a supervisor or Project Manager.
• Prepares maps and/or coordinates with GIS team.
• Coordinate Public Involvement efforts including mailing lists, website updates, in person and virtual meetings
• Assist with the preparation and modification of various environmental documents, natural resource documents and permit applications
• Assists with the use of reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, tests, and aerial photographs to assess environmental resources and their impact on the planning and design of projects
• Assist in preparation of reports and workplans by learning regulatory requirements
• Perform other duties as requested

Some travel will be required - An average of approximately 25%.

The successful candidate will have the following background:

• Bachelor's degree (or higher) in related field from an accredited four year college or university
• At least 2 years' experience

Valid driver's license required.

The ideal candidate will have experience with any/all the following:

• Master's degree preferred
• AICP preparation underway

• Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
• Extensive knowledge of computer modeling, digital mapping, and global positioning systems (GPS) equipment.

• NEPA and/or permitting experience
• 40-hr Basic Wetland Delineation training certification
