Job Overview:

Ingersoll Rand is hiring a Design Engineer to join our growing Dry and Oil Sealed Vacuum division-one of the top growth priorities within our Industrial Technologies and Services Americas segment. This exciting role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge, industry-leading projects that drive innovation and customer value. In this highly collaborative and dynamic environment, you'll contribute to high-impact Innovate to Value (i2V), new product development, and new technology introduction initiatives. Our vacuum engineering team supports a wide range of technologies-including vane, piston, claw, and dry screw vacuum pumps-giving you exposure to diverse engineering challenges and the chance to make a real difference.

As a Design Engineer, you'll take full ownership of projects from concept through completion, ensuring technical excellence, on-time delivery, and cost-effective solutions. Your work will directly support our Make Life Better (MLB) mission and Annual Operating Plan (AOP) objectives. Beyond new development, you'll also support existing products, partnering cross-functionally with operations, quality, sourcing, and other teams to drive ongoing success. This is a great opportunity for a mechanically curious, entrepreneurial engineer who thrives on solving tough problems and taking initiative.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, analyze, and develop rotating and critical flow equipment
  • Create and maintain 2D drawings and 3D models of all complex industrial parts and assemblies
  • Perform structural, thermal, and fluid dynamic simulations of complex mechanical systems
  • Create and facilitate test plans for complex mechanical systems
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including sourcing, quality, manufacturing, and product management, to design and develop critical flow equipment
  • Create and showcase presentations that communicate complex engineering ideas with large audiences of varying technical backgrounds
  • Ensure compliance of designs and processes with all relevant safety regulations and industry standards
  • Troubleshoot and implement solutions to problems with internal and external customers



Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial, or related field).
  • 2+ years of professional experience in an engineering role in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Familiarity of drafting standards, symbols, nomenclature, engineering terms, bills of material, and proper use of material and engineering reference books and catalogs
  • Ability to work independently or as a team with engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, product management, and customer service
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of engineering principles, CAD software, and industry standards.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify and resolve complex issues creatively and effectively.
  • Project Management: Experience managing multiple projects with strong organizational skills.
  • Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Adaptability and Innovation: Flexibility to adapt to changes, openness to new ideas, and drive for continuous improvement.



Preferences:
  • Master's degree in engineering or a related field
  • Previous experience with project management and lean manufacturing principles
  • 2+ years of experience with 3D CAD software
  • PTC Creo and SolidWorks preferred
  • 2+ years of experience with CAE tools for FEA and CFD simulations
  • Ansys Mechanical, Converge CFD, and GT-Suite preferred
  • 2+ years of experience with common industrial programming languages
  • Python and VBA preferred
  • Previous experience with designing in accordance with ASME Y14.5M
  • Previous experience with flow generation industry standards, (e.g., ISO 1217, ISO 21360)



Travel and Work Arrangements
  • This is an onsite position, preferably based in Quincy, IL or may reside in Springfield, MO
  • Limited anticipated travel (<20%)
  • US Citizen or lawful Permanent Resident

The pay range for this role is $70, 000 - $95,000. The pay range considers a wide range of factors that include a candidate's skills; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and geographic location.
