Description:

The responsibility of the Planner is to effectively and properly plan maintenance work using prior mechanical experience, process and equipment knowledge, and SAP. The planner is responsible for prioritizing work requests, specifying parts, and completing proper job plans for the maintenance department. The planner receives parts both physically and in SAP. The planner maintains storeroom inventory and kits parts for work requests. The planner also ensures BOM accuracy and helps improve asset preventative maintenance plans. This person will be expected to be attentive to details, utilizing critical thinking and reasoning skills to efficiently and effectively prioritize and plan the work that needs to be done to ensure maximized machine uptime and reliability and improve workforce productivity and quality by eliminating waste in time, parts, cost, and machine breakdowns. Planners are responsible for delivering improved safety, quality, and performance in the execution of maintenance activities.

This position is an 8-hour day shift role and reports to the Maintenance Leader.

Responsibilities:



  1. Live and adhere to the Safety Culture of Zero Accidents, and ensure plant safety needs are given top priority in the planning process.



  1. Work collaboratively with Operations, Stores, Engineering, other Planners, Foremen, Supervisors, Maintenance Technicians and general plant personnel.
  2. Comply with all plant rules



  1. Actively support TPM and the PM pillar, with a focus on processing red cards; participate in meetings and on special projects as needed
  2. Follow RWP principles and procedures and ensure continuous improvement by incorporating technician feedback into future job plans.
  3. Oversee contractors and support foremen and maintenance techs during down time
  4. Utilize and update plant blueprints, drawings, instructional manuals and special procedures
  5. Look for opportunities and implement changes to improve efficiency in the planning process
  6. Work overtime as needed to support down days, emergencies, extended shutdowns, and manage backlog



  1. Ensure plant personnell understand and comply with RWP procedures; conduct training as necessary
  2. May be required to back up other planners, scheduler, forman, etc.
  3. Work to ensure materials availability and kitting of planned work
  4. Create and input work notifications based on observations of defects
  5. Provide detailed scope of work, including estimates of key work steps, materials, manpower, safety considerations and additional resources as needed for all planned work
  6. Familiar with precision maintenance tools and applications and utilize in work plans when appropriate
  7. Evaluate PMs for effectiveness, ensuring instructions are clear and concise, measurement based as much as possible, and focused on identifying defects and failures; updates as needed
  8. Update and correct equipment files, specifications, parts lists (BOM), descriptions, etc. as errors or outdated information are encountered
  9. Research parts and create requisitions using cost effective, quality parts in compliance with all sourcing policies and procedures
  10. Determine when failed parts can be rebuilt or repaired in lieu of replacing
  11. Keep up with turning notifications into work orders in a timely manner to ensure available down time is fully utilized - does not allow aged work orders to accumulate. DAM meeting attendance required.
  12. Maintain a reasonable backlog to ensure a balance of up-time and down-time work is always ready to schedule
  13. Spend sufficient time out in the plant scoping work (approximately 30%)
  14. Help to determine root cause of failures and help identify and implement permanent corrective actions, with may include creating new PMs, working with team to design improvements, identifying critical spare parts, benchmarking other plants, etc.
  15. Able to make reasonable assumptions and assessments regarding equipment condition
  16. Effectively plans extended shutdowns, including coordination with other departments and contractors, with support as needed



Essential Qualifications:



  • Must be familiar with a CMMS (SAP preferred)
  • Must have strong communications skills
  • Demonstrates creativity and problem solving ability
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Willing and able to speak in a group setting and train others
  • Strong work ethic and excellent attendance
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude, electrical experience preferred
  • Possess strong planning, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Self-starter, motivated and goal oriented
  • Must be computer literate


Job Requirements:

Education/Experience



  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years industrial maintenance experience preferred
  • Must meet Class 3 Mulit-craft Technician requirements
  • Able to read, write and speak English
  • Perform basic arithmetic - addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions
  • Able to read blue prints, equipment schematics, and parts breakdowns
  • Able to use manuals, computer searches, and/or vendor contacts to research parts, materials and tools
  • Able to use full range of measurement tools, including but not limited to: tape measure, caliper, micrometer, pi tape, etc.
  • Must be legally able to work in the United States



Physical Requirements



  • Must be drug and alcohol free
  • Able to routinely lift up to 40 lbs without assistance
  • Work in extreme hot/cold manufacturing environment
  • Able to walk, stand or sit for extended periods of time
  • Able to work in cramped areas and enter confined spaces
  • Able to work at heights
  • Able to walk up and down ladders, stairs and platforms frequently
  • Able to safeguard self with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - steel toed shoes, gloves, eye protection (glasses, goggles, and/or face shields), and face masks as necessary
