The Robert M. Berne Cardiovascular Research Center (CVRC) at the University of Virginia's (UVA) School of Medicine is currently seeking a Laboratory Technician 2, Laboratory Specialist or Laboratory Specialist Intermediate to join The Sonkusare laboratory. The Sonkusare laboratory studies ion channels and calcium signaling mechanisms in the microcirculation under normal and disease conditions. The laboratory employs state-of-the-art calcium imaging, patch clamp electrophysiology, super resolution imaging, functional assays, radio telemetric blood pressure measurements, and transgenic mouse models. The overarching goal is to discover novel strategies for rescuing vascular function in cardiovascular disorders. The candidate should be highly motivated to learn new techniques and should have good communication skills. Experience in small tissue dissection, animal handling, and molecular biology is highly desirable. The candidate will be expected to manage laboratory purchases, setups, protocols, and mouse colonies and perform molecular biology and functional experiments in small blood vessels. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Experience: At least 2 years of lab experience, which may include student experience. Bachelor's degree may substitute for required experience. 4 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree. Lab Specialist Education: Bachelor's degree. Experience: 3 years of experience. 6 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree. Lab Specialist Intermediate Education: Bachelor's degree. Experience: 6 years of experience in a lab technician role. Master's degree may substitute for required experience. 9 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree. Physical Demands This position can involve extensive periods of standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. It also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring finer finger manipulation. This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance. This position is located in Charlottesville, Virginia.This is a part-time benefited position.
