Job Description

The Senior Philanthropic Advisor (SPA) serves as a trusted philanthropic partner to a defined geographic region and acts as the liaison to the Academy of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering. This major gift fundraiser will have a primary focus on securing major gifts for the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, with an emphasis on benefactors in Missouri, Kansas, and Illinois, as well as principal and major gifts for the Bio-Initiative and related interdisciplinary efforts. Working closely with the Relationship Management team, the SPA will engage regularly with top prospects and benefactors, with an expectation of 120 face-to-face visits annually. The successful candidate will partner effectively with campus faculty, staff, and administrators to cultivate, solicit, and close major gifts in support of capital and comprehensive initiatives.

Remote work arrangements will be considered with quarterly campus visits expected.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prospect Cultivation:
    • Cultivate relationships with key decision-makers within these organizations through strategic outreach and engagement
  • Proposal Development and Solicitation:
    • Work with university leadership, faculty, and staff to identify funding needs that match the interests of targeted corporations and foundations
    • Prepare and present compelling proposals and other solicitation materials to secure funding
  • Stewardship and Relationship Management:
    • Ensure proper stewardship of corporate and foundation gifts through timely acknowledgment, reporting, and recognition
    • Maintain ongoing communication with benefactors to foster long-term relationships and encourage future support
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Act as a liaison between corporations/foundations and Missouri S&T, facilitating effective communication and collaboration
    • Coordinate with university departments to gather necessary information for proposals and reports
Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, communications, education, or public administration
  • Three or more years of successful experience in fundraising, marketing, sales, or a related field
  • Proven track record of soliciting and closing major gifts
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Outstanding social skills, interpersonal skills, discretion, and judgement
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $68,200-$90,000 annually.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
