SR. STRUCTURAL ENGINEER (CIVIL)

As a member of the construction projects team, you will work with a group of elite engineers and specialists across multiple disciplines to design, build, and activate infrastructure for a variety of commercial and industrial projects at Starbase as well as other SpaceX Facilities. This role is responsible for the design, build, and activation of infrastructure, facilities improvements, and large capital projects. You will have the opportunity to drive positive change in a fast-paced and low-drag environment. This includes owning tasks/projects from start to finish, with the goal of making the SpaceX campus a world-class facility that can support the mission of enabling life beyond Earth. This position is based in South Texas (Brownsville/South Padre area).

RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Lead multi-disciplinary engineers and third-party engineers of record throughout the entirety of the civil and structural engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning process
  • Perform both civil and structural design and analysis calculations for structural steel and concrete
  • Develop and issue drawings, design documentation, calculations, and reports for aerospace, industrial, and commercial type projects
  • Write, negotiate, and manage construction contracts with subcontractors across multiple disciplines through contract close-out
  • Manage the civil and structural aspects of construction projects
  • Interact with contractors, fabricators, owners, and clients
  • Provide direct onsite engineering inspections and field observations
  • Resolve design and construction conflicts in the field in real time
  • Provide technical engineering support/information to ensure construction/maintenance complies with all standards, codes, and specifications


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or structural engineering
  • 7+ years of professional experience as an engineer with a focus on the design or build of capital projects


PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:



  • Knowledge of American Institute ofSteel Construction (AISC) steel manual, American Concrete Institute (ACI) code 318, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 7, and International Building Code (IBC)
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design software
  • Experience with SAP 2000, STAAD Pro, RISA-3D, Etabs, or similar analysis software
  • Knowledge of processes of governing permitting agencies, such as building departments and/or environmental agencies
  • Knowledge of other disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, piping, geotechnical, and surveying
  • Experience with project management of major construction projects, including estimating, cost control, scheduling, and contractor management
  • Experience with the following project delivery phases:


    • Conceptual layout and high-level trade studies
    • Detailed engineering design and development
    • Request for proposals/quotes, contract issue
    • Supervision of construction to completion
    • Work punch lists and certificate of occupancy (CO) with the building official


  • Strong communication skills


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Ability to work at elevated heights (200+ feet) with proper PPE
  • Physical effort with lifting and carrying materials or equipment (up to 25 lbs.)
  • Typically exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments - heat, cold, rain
  • Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
  • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends when needed, based on site operational needs; flexibility required
  • Valid driver's license
  • Occasional travel may be required to support projects at other sites (<25%)
