The Building Project Engineer will be responsible for oversight of building enclosure and civil work activities on building construction projects. This includes development of engineering services and construction manager scope; development, review and finalization of design documents; review of submittals and RFI's; creation and tracking of project schedules; and monitoring of field progress to ensure that project scope, schedule, and budget are maintained. This position will regularly interact with engineering, construction contractor, and Stellantis plant personnel while also reporting project status to Senior staff. The Building Project Engineer will oversee the design, construction, and coordination of building and civil construction installations. The Building Project Engineer will also be responsible for preparing building costs estimates for future programs, while tracking budgets on current projects. The position requires working in a fast-paced collaborative environment with all project staff disciplines to proactively identify issues, root cause problems, and drive continuous improvement.

Job Responsibilities:



  • Create accurate and detailed building cost estimates for pre-study budgeting
  • Collaborate with design engineers, architects, contractors, and suppliers to collect and verify pricing data for labor, materials, and equipment
  • Develop project budgets and forecasting reports
  • Provide review of design documents during their development and prior to bidding
  • Interact with local AHJs (authorities having jurisdiction) to facilitate project due diligence and permitting activities
  • Monitor construction work in the field by building and civil contactors
  • Participate in value engineering, constructability reviews, and scheduling efforts to reduce project scope, cost and schedule
  • Provide technical support to project staff to resolve field issues
  • Review project submittals and coordinate response with A/E firms
  • Assist in the resolution of questions from contractors, (i.e., interpreting the meaning and intent of drawings and specs) and submitting/tracking/resolving RFIs
  • Work with the project team to develop, provide oversight, and ensure adherence to the project schedule
  • Coordinate with other disciplines the project installation, delivery, and schedule
  • Conduct building/civil package construction coordination meetings
  • Assist in developing work scopes and pricing breakdowns for construction bid packages
  • Identify and resolve contractor's interferences prior to commencement of construction activities
  • Monitor construction progress and ensure quality conformance by building and civil contractors
  • Review change orders for validity, accuracy, and fairness against project scope
  • Coordinate with Value Analysis review of project bulletins
  • Issue progress updates and prepare presentations for upper management
  • Evaluate completion of the contractors work and assist in punch-list creation and close-out
  • Review and finalization of close-out documentation
  • Document problems found and provide lessons learned for continuous improvement
  • Review monthly invoicing
  • Contribute to continuous improvement through submission of employee suggestions, kaizens, and problems found journals

Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or technical field related to construction
  • Minimum THREE (3) years of experience in building systems installation and design (including schematic design and the creation of construction documents)
  • Minimum TWO (2) years of construction site project management experience (including construction bidding/procurement, cost/change management, and scheduling experience)
  • Proficient in reading and understanding construction drawings and specifications
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Lean Construction concepts
  • Experience with problem solving tools
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and project planning skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office software suites (including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Teams)
  • Available and willing to travel and work overtime as required


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Advanced degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management
  • Experience in automotive and/or manufacturing facilities design
  • Proficiency in using AutoCAD or Revit
  • Experience with fast-track project delivery models
  • Knowledge of LEED Green Building design principles
  • Building Cost Estimating experience
  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g. CostX, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Sage)
