Job Overview:

The ANSP caseworker/CO is to provide culturally appropriate education including orientation services, classes, and workshops for refugees and special immigrant visa holders (SIVs). Topics and training delivered through the cultural orientation program include public transit, budgeting, banking, safety, health, nutrition, and other information pertinent to the successful resettlement of newly arrived refugees. This position is also tasked with completing surveys and screenings with clients and establishing and maintaining partnerships that support IRC classes and programs.

The position may also manage caseload to provide aid to refugees and other qualified immigrants to ensure the best possible resettlement experience and the achievement of client self-sufficiency. The Caseworker develops resettlement and/or self-sufficiency plans to match individual client needs and preferences utilizing a broad range of financial, medical, social, vocational, and other services and resources based on client eligibility. The Caseworker operates under close supervision with moderate latitude for the use of independent judgment and initiative.

Major Responsibilities:

Cultural Orientation

  • Provide culturally appropriate education including orientation services, classes, and workshops for refugees, special immigrant visa holders (SIVs) and other qualified clients under ANSP program. Topics and training delivered through the cultural orientation program include public transit, budgeting, banking, safety, health, nutrition, and other information pertinent to the successful resettlement of newly arrived refugees.
  • Ensure regular case file documentation and tracking of class attendance, screening outcomes, and referrals.
  • Improve, and grow the new arrival cultural orientation system, with consideration towards grant requirements, agency best practices, and refugee assets and needs.
  • Conduct multiple cultural orientation classes each week to new refugee arrivals, using engaged learning and nontraditional teaching methods.
  • Complete surveys and assessments to track and analyze survey data to share with program supervisors.

Case management

  • Provide client support through social service referrals, medical access, and advocacy services by assessing and evaluating each client's distinct needs.
  • Independently develop reasonable integration and/or self-sufficiency plans and timelines for each client and managing client expectations.
  • Ensure that clients are provided with the basic tools necessary to meet their established short-term goals and objectives.
  • Assess and monitor client progress at regular intervals to ensure progress on goals is made, designated resources are maximized and modify initial case plans and other case file documents as required.
  • Ensure compliance with case file management and reporting requirements, including timely data entry in hardcopy files and databases.
  • Travel regularly throughout the service delivery area.
  • Participate in all program meetings and staff development activities and fully engage as a member of the team.
  • Promote and actively participate in initiatives and efforts to build team engagement, inclusion, and cohesion in IRC Sacramento.
  • Foster ongoing learning, honest dialogue, and reflection to strengthen safeguarding and to promote IRC values and adherence to IRC policies.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Other Internal and/or external contacts:

Internal:Caseworker will develop working relationships with internal direct service staff to support achievement

of case management goals. This includes Intensive Case Management, Community Wellness, Economic Empowerment Programs, Anti-Trafficking Program, and Immigration Programming.

External: Caseworker will develop working relationships with community stakeholders, landlords and property managers and community-based organizations to support achievement of program requirements.

Job Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree, ideally in Social Work or an equivalent field of study. Comparable related work experience may be substituted.
  • Demonstrated relevant work experience (in addition to the above) in the human services field, preferably in refugee resettlement in a nonprofit or social services agency environment. Experience should include a minimum of three years providing direct service to underserved communities. Prior experience working with refugee populations preferred.
  • Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Proven ability to contribute both independently and as a key team member.
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks, set priorities, effectively manage time, meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communications skills, with fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Highly motivated with an ability to work independently, develop new classes and programming, and be a self-starter, maintaining responsibility for multiple tasks.
  • Bi-lingual candidates preferred in Dari, Pashto.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable vehicle with current insurance, and the ability to travel regularly throughout the service delivery area.

Working Environment:

  • Mix of standard office work environment and hybrid work, coupled with regular travel in and around the service delivery area. 3 days in office required.
  • Reoccurring need to provide services outside of traditional work hours (evenings and weekends).

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
