The Position

The Drumline Instructor is a part - time non - benefitted position that is responsible for all aspects of the percussion section of the marching band. This includes, but is not limited to, arranging and teaching percussion music, teaching drill coordinates, running sectional rehearsals and assisting the band director in overall show design and the selection of drum equipment. The instructor shall attend band camp in August, weekly in-session practices and sectionals, and band staff meetings. The instructor plays a critical role in specialized instruction for drumline members.

Position serves from August through the academic year, is non-benefitted and works a maximum 160 hours in total.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Arranging and teaching percussion music
  • Teaching drill coordinates
  • Running sectional rehearsals
  • Assisting the band director in overall show design
  • Selection of drum equipment

Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Should have extensive background in percussion.
  • Experiences should include performing at a high level as a member of a high school or college drumline
  • Performance experience with DCI or other professional organizations is a plus!
  • Experience teaching a drumline is preferred
