Founded in 1842, Roanoke College is a nationally ranked residential liberal arts college affiliated with the Lutheran Church (ELCA), located in the beautiful Roanoke Valley of Virginia. Our enrollment is around 1,800 undergraduate students. Our goal is to help our students Live on Purpose by making thoughtful choices about their paths in life. We value and encourage mentoring interactions between our students and college employees. We offer 54 majors across traditional liberal arts disciplines and preprofessional programs.
Roanoke College employs 550 faculty and staff members on a beautiful 90 acre campus. Salem and the surrounding Roanoke Valley are wonderful places to live with a low cost of living index and plenty of activities to fill your free time. Those who are outdoor enthusiasts will find many opportunities for hiking, biking, white water rafting and more. For those who occasionally crave a larger city, Charlotte and Raleigh, NC are 3 hours away, and Washington, DC is 4 hours away. Virginia enjoys 4 distinct seasons and you can go from playing in the mountains to splashing in the Atlantic Ocean in an weekend!
