We have an opportunity for a Research, Development, and Engineering EHS & Facility Manager to join our Apex, NC team. You will be responsible for the comprehensive care, maintenance, safety, and efficient operation of all site facilities, equipment, and furnishings. This role ensures compliance with all regulatory and corporate EHS standards, supports research operations, and leads continuous improvement in safety culture and facility performance. You will:
- Develop, review, and update the EHS management system, ensuring guidelines and procedures are current, compliant, and effectively communicated.
- Monitor and audit compliance with EHS requirements; recommend and track corrective actions for non-compliance.
- Collect and analyze data from safety audits and incidents to identify improvement opportunities.
- Prepare and submit EHS reports to internal, corporate, and external agencies (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
- Investigate incidents and accidents, ensuring timely completion of corrective actions.
- Conduct hazard assessments, risk analyses, and EHS training (including new hire orientation and specialized sessions).
- Coordinate industrial hygiene activities (e.g., exposure and noise monitoring).
- Oversee hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal, maintaining site landfill-free initiatives.
- Oversee daily operations and preventive maintenance for office, laboratory, and R&D spaces, minimizing disruption to research activities.
- Oversee site security and set security policy in coordination with corporate.
- Conduct routine inspections of common areas, mechanical spaces, research areas, and grounds for compliance with facility standards.
- Manage work orders, inventory of maintenance materials, and facility equipment lifecycle (acquisition to retirement).
- Coordinate equipment training, maintenance scheduling, and service contracts.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate repairs.
- Assist with lab expansions, contractions, and relocations; maintain space utilization documentation.
- Communicate planned utility and system shutdowns with stakeholders.
- Maintain productive relationships with EHS, Corporate Real Estate, IT, and other enterprise partners.
- Assist in emergency preparedness and disaster recovery planning.
- Provide first response for lab emergencies and train staff on safety protocols.
- Monitor compliance with safety regulations and prepare for safety audits.
- Participate in 24/7 emergency response to equipment failures or urgent issues.
Key Qualifications:
- Degree from a recognized institution in a relevant field (Technical or 4-Year Degree preferred), or equivalent experience.
- Minimum five years of experience in maintenance and operations, with a focus on complex mechanical systems and laboratory infrastructure.
- Lab experience (2-3 years) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment, infrastructure, and safety requirements.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements for research laboratories and EHS management systems.
- Experience with HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems in research-intensive settings.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering plans.
- Physical ability to perform manual labor, including lifting (<40 lbs.) and routine facility maintenance tasks.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multi-task, meet demanding deadlines, and work independently or in a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation and regulations.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders at all organizational levels.
Compensation: For this full-time position working at this location, the anticipated annualized base pay range will be from $82300 - $152800 / year. At Pentair, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the pay range. Pentair considers various factors in determining actual compensation for this position at the expected location. Actual compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, work location, and other relevant business or organizational needs. This position may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as, annual incentive bonus.
