Job Description:

The Eligibility and Data Specialist will assist ACPS school-based teams in making appropriate eligibility and data based decisions related to the processes of referral and evaluation for special education services. The Specialist will collect and submit to the Executive Director of Specialized Instruction the necessary State Performance Plan Indicator data for reporting information to the Virginia Department. This position reports to the school's Lead Administrator.

This is a Licensed 10-month position.

Qualifications:



  • Education: Master's Degree required.


  • Certificates & Licenses: A Valid Virginia Department of Education license or eligibility to obtain a license within one year of initial hire is required.



  • Experience: Instructional background to clearly connect data to instructional decision-making.





Key Competencies:



  • Knowledge in federal and state special education laws and regulations, specifically those related to response to intervention, referral and eligibility.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to interact effectively with administrators, teachers, parents, professionals, students, and community agencies.
  • Knowledge and ability to manipulate data. Ability and understanding of how to present data in an applicable and functional manner. Knowledge or willingness to learn to use multiple data collection and analysis tools



Essential Functions:





    • The specialist will provide leadership to school staff regarding analyzing and interpreting data relating to eligibility determination for special education.
    • Collaborate with administrators, teachers, parents/guardians, and other school personnel in collecting and sharing information about students, and assess appropriate interventions for students in need of additional support.
    • Responsible for ensuring accurate interpretation of assessment results as related to initial special education eligibility determination.
    • Ensures the implementation of state and local regulations related to special education eligibility processes and procedures.
    • Provides consultative and support services to school based SST teams, teachers, and other non special education staff regarding the eligibility process.
    • Facilitate record review and reevaluation meetings for students enrolled at the campuses of Alexandria City High School.
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the high school.





Clearances



  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.


Public Health Compliance



  • Must follow safety and health protocols.
