Job Title: High School Spring Musical Director

Location: Nestucca High School, Cloverdale, OR
Employment Type: Seasonal / Stipend Position
Stipend: 2025-2026: $4200

Position Overview:
Nestucca High School is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Spring Musical Director to lead our annual school musical production. This position plays a vital role in enhancing our students' artistic experiences and building a strong culture of performance and collaboration within our school community. The Spring Musical Director will oversee all aspects of the production-from casting to final performance-while nurturing the talents of student performers and tech crew members in a supportive, inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Artistic Direction & Rehearsal Management
*Select or collaborate in selecting an age-appropriate and budget-conscious musical.
*Develop a creative vision for the production and lead all musical and vocal aspects.
*Direct rehearsals, including vocal coaching, arranging for or doing choreography, and blocking of musical numbers. Musical Director has the support of HS Choral Director for vocal coaching.

Student Leadership & Support
*Conduct auditions and cast students in roles that support both their development and the needs of the show.
*Provide vocal and lines interp instruction and help students build performance skills.
*Foster teamwork, discipline, and confidence among students of varying experience levels.

Production Coordination
*Collaborate with school staff and volunteers (including choreographer, set designer, and technical crew) to plan and execute the production.
*Develop and manage a production calendar with rehearsal schedules, tech week, and performance dates.
*Organize and communicate expectations clearly with students and families. Use ParentSquare for parent and student communications. Additionally, post information with school announcements when needed.

Community Engagement & Collaboration
*Work closely with assistant director, Nestucca music and drama teachers, administrative staff, and parent/community volunteers.
*Encourage community involvement and support through outreach and fundraising.
*Ensure students have a safe, respectful environment during all musical activities.

Logistics & Compliance
*Maintain compliance with all Nestucca Valley School District policies and student safety protocols.
*Supervise students during all rehearsals and performances to uphold behavior and attendance expectations.

Qualifications:
Required:
*.Strong musical background, including vocal and/or instrumental skills.
*Demonstrated ability to work with high school students in an instructional or mentorship role.
*Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Preferred:
*Bachelor's degree or working towards a degree in Music, Theater, Education, or related field.
*Experience directing school or community musical theater productions
*Ability to read music and lead rehearsals musically.
*Familiarity with the needs and strengths of a rural school community like Nestucca.

Schedule & Commitment:
*Seasonal position aligned with the musical production calendar (typically from January through early May or late April).
*Rehearsals primarily take place after school; some weekend and evening availability is required during peak production periods.
*Includes additional coordination meetings and planning as needed.
