POSITION SPECIFICS

A full-time Research Technologist position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Yongsoo Kim in the Neural and Behavioral Sciences Department at Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA. The lab focuses on understanding the cell type architecture of the nervous system and how it supports cognitive functions in the mammalian brain using mice as an animal model. Main brain diseases of interest are neurodevelopmental disorders including autism and neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease.

Our main research tools are whole brain mapping methods using high resolution 3D imaging and related computational analysis in rodents. The principal role of the job includes performing various systems neuroscience experiments (e.g., in vivo neural circuit recording and manipulation with behavioral tests), high-resolution whole brain imaging, mouse colony management, genotyping, and other research supportive work in the lab. Additional laboratory responsibilities will include supervising students, ordering supplies, management of laboratory animals, assisting with data analysis and safety protocols, and upkeep of equipment. Candidates should be willing to learn new techniques and be responsible, self-motivated, detail-oriented, flexible, a good communicator, and possess strong organizational skills. Preference will be given to candidates that possess the above skill sets.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

If filled as Research Technologist - Animal Sciences - Professional, this position requires: Bachelor's Degree No prior relevant work experience required; previous relevant work experience accepted in lieu of education. Required Certifications: None If filled as Research Technologist - Animal Sciences - Intermediate Professional, this position requires: Bachelor's Degree 1+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $34,800.00 - $55,500.00.
