We're looking for a proactive, commercially minded attorney to join our dynamic legal team. This role will focus on supporting our energy management, brokerage, renewable energy solutions, sustainability and physical supply and trading businesses, with a strong emphasis on structuring and negotiating commercial agreements within the energy sector.

Reporting to the Managing Counsel and joining our 35+ member legal team which operate from locations in the US, UK, South Africa, Costa Rica and Brazil, this role presents an exciting opportunity for the right individual.

World Kinect embraces technology and efficient working practices. This role offers remote working with occasional travel to meet colleagues (typically Miami and Minnesota), to maintain connection and collegiality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver strategic legal support for commodity and energy trading, with a focus on US natural gas markets.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial and trading agreements - (e.g. ISDAs, NAESBs, EFETs, oil trading, transport, and storage agreements).
  • Advise on complex contractual structures across the energy supply chain.
  • Ensure compliance with US regulatory frameworks including FERC and CFTC.
  • Develop and implement internal compliance policies and procedures.
  • Support dispute resolution and litigation related to energy trading and commercial matters.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide integrated and comprehensive legal guidance.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and changes in relevant laws and regulations.

Requirements and Skills

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in the United States.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience, in commercial contracts and energy trading. (Candidates outside of this guideline PQE range with knowledge, interest and the drive to succeed will be considered.)
  • Training and post-qualification experience at a high-calibre law firm. In-house commercial legal experience at an energy company, oil major, trading house or shipping, transportation, renewables or industrial services company is valued but not essential.
  • A pragmatic, hands-on solutions-oriented lawyer who is able to think on their feet and find sensible solutions to legal challenges; able to assess issues, take ownership and efficiently implement solutions.
  • Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills - emotionally intelligent and able to win trust and develop business relationships.
  • Knowledge and a passion to assist World Kinect in its sustainable energy transition.
