Job Description

General Summary:

The Process Chemistry Scientific Fellow will develop and apply novel solutions to solve complex problems. This role will demonstrate mastery of drug development processes and quality and regulatory requirements by identifying needs and developing solutions in neighboring areas.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a resource in one or more technical areas providing in-depth technical advice and developing theoretical premise for issues within discipline
  • May identify and manage CRO or external collaborations development efforts within appropriate regulations and SOPs
  • Explores specific new science projects and business initiatives for the company to consider
  • Generates and reviews technical documentation such as reports and filing source documents and may lead resolution of quality investigations
  • Works with supervisor to develop tools and standards for department functions
  • Ensures effective relationships between Vertex and key suppliers of materials, technology, and manufacturing resources
  • Partners with Supply Chain on activities to enable new material suppliers and manufacturing sites
  • Works with CMOs, Quality and Regulatory on activities related to the identification and execution of complex continuous process improvement projects, technical investigations, and routine trending of manufacturing data within a Quality by Design (QbD) framework
  • Demonstrates intellectual and technological leadership

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Displays scientific leadership qualities
  • May coordinate interdisciplinary brainstorming to identify and introduce novel modes of scientific inquiry
  • Demonstrates broad and deep knowledge of own discipline
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate advanced technical/scientific concepts and persuades others to adopt a different point of view
  • Major contributor to department discussion and initiatives
  • Scientific impacts cross functionally
  • Understanding of quality and regulatory requirements

Education and Experience:

  • PhD and 9 years of experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience

Pay Range:

$180,000 - $270,000

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
