SMO Operations Governance Analyst

SUMMARY: The Strategic Management Office (SMO) Operations Governance Analyst is responsible for supporting the Strategic Management Office in ensuring adherence to the standardized project management and process improvement practices across the bank. This role focuses on evaluating project deliverables, verifying compliance with SMO framework, and ensuring the completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of project and process improvement documentation. The analyst plays a vital role in promoting consistency, quality, and accountability across the bank's project portfolio.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and special projects may be assigned.

  • Compliance Monitoring
  • Ensure projects adhere to SMO frameworks, governance processes, and compliance standards.
  • Artifact Collection and Validation
  • Collect, review, and validate project documentation including (but not limited to) charters, project plan, business cases, business requirement documentation, executed SOWs, change requests, master test plan and lessons learned.
  • Project Documentation Audits
  • Review artifacts to ensure completeness and alignment with approved templates and standards.
  • Quality Assurance Reviews
  • Perform quality checks to ensure consistency in formatting, content accuracy, version control, and adherence to SMO templates and naming conventions.
  • Meeting Oversight
  • Review and ensure that meeting agendas, minutes, and action items are documented properly and distributed in a timely manner. Validate that action items are followed up and completed.
  • Process Improvement Support
  • Identify gaps and recommend improvements to project management processes, tools, and templates.
  • Reporting and Metrics
  • Support the creation of quality assurance dashboards, compliance metrics, and trend analysis reports for senior leadership review.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Work with project managers, sponsors, and other stakeholders to promote best practices and provide guidance on compliance requirements.
  • Training and Coaching
  • Assist in training initiatives related to PMO processes, quality standards, and documentation expectations.
  • Adheres to and complies with applicable, federal and state laws, regulations and guidance, including those related to anti-money laundering (i.e. Bank Secrecy Act, US PATRIOT Act, etc.).
  • Adheres to Bank policies and procedures and completes required training.
  • Identifies and reports suspicious activity.

EDUCATION
Bachelor's Degree in business administration, Project Management, Information Technology or a related field required
EXPERIENCE

  • 3--5 years of experience in project management, quality assurance, or PMO roles--preferably within a financial institution or regulated industry

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • CAPM, PMP, or PMI-PBA
  • Lean Six Sigma Yellow or Green Belt
  • ITIL, COBIT, or similar governance frameworks

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Familiarity with project management methodologies such as PMBOK, Agile, or hybrid frameworks.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet, Jira, or similar)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Understanding of governance and compliance in a financial services environment
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Strong strategic thinking paired with operational execution ability.
  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence, resilience, and the ability to lead through ambiguity.
  • Proven ability to build trust, foster collaboration, and drive alignment across complex stakeholder groups.
  • Metrics-driven mindset with the ability to link change initiatives to business outcomes.
