Packaging Operator

Spectra Tech, Inc. is hiring for a Packaging Operator in Memphis, TN

Position Summary:
Responsible for the filtration, packaging, and shipment of fresh yeast products in a fast-paced, production-driven food environment. Operates specialized packaging equipment such as rotary vacuum filters and yeast cake extruders, troubleshoots machinery, and performs sanitation duties in compliance with GMP, HACCP, ISO, and safety standards. Assists with shipping and receiving as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate and maintain packaging equipment for fresh yeast products.
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues and submit maintenance requests when necessary.
• Perform routine sanitation and housekeeping duties.
• Ensure adherence to quality and safety protocols (GMP, HACCP, ISO).
• Provide backup for the Shipping & Receiving Coordinator.

Requirements:

• Industrial experience in a food production setting preferred.
• Forklift experience required (certification needed).
• Ability to work in refrigerated environments (45-55F in packaging, 25-30F in cooler).

Skills & Abilities:

• Proficient with forklifts and pallet jacks.
• Strong communication skills and ability to maintain positive relationships.
• Competent in standard office equipment and barcode systems.
• Capable of responding to customer inquiries and presenting basic information.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

• Exposure to yeast manufacturing aromas and fluctuating temperatures.
• Requires use of hearing protection.
• Regularly lifts/moves 55 lbs, frequently sits, and uses hands and arms for extended periods.
• Visual demands include close and distance vision, depth perception, and color recognition.
