Energy Department

The Energy Department is dedicated to managing and optimizing the energy resources required to power our data centers while promoting sustainability and efficiency. The Energy department plays a critical role in ensuring our power solutions are cost-effective, support speed to market, have sufficient scale to meet growing AI load, and resilient to energy market fluctuations. The team focuses on energy procurement from utilities, independent power producers (IPPs), energy marketers, and renewable energy technology providers.

Position Overview

This role will be based in Wisconsin.

The Regional Utility and Regulatory Lead - Wisconsin is responsible for managing all utility-related coordination, execution, and oversight for a single, large-scale data center project, working directly with WE Energies (WEC), American Transmission Company (ATC), and key stakeholders involved in Wisconsin's regulatory and market environment. This role ensures successful utility infrastructure delivery, maintains alignment with project schedules, oversees company engagement in regulatory proceedings, and serves as the primary utility interface through construction and transition into operations.

This individual will support filings and proceedings related to tariffs, CPCNs, and MISO approvals by collaborating with legal, policy, and external affairs teams, while actively managing local relationships with stakeholders, intervenors, and regulators.

Essential Job Functions

  • Lead all electric utility coordination efforts for one major Wisconsin-based data center project, including oversight of service applications

  • Serve as the primary liaison to WE Energies, as well as local regulators and stakeholders throughout the utility delivery process

  • Maintain utility project schedules aligned with CPCN timelines, commission hearings, and regulatory filing windows; track risks and identify mitigation actions

  • Coordinate directly with internal teams (construction, engineering, legal, policy) to manage utility deliverables and technical inputs for regulatory filings and commission briefings

  • Responsible for leading and negotiating utility contracts

  • Understanding and communicating internally the applicable utility tariff rates, impact on power prices, and any financial commitments required

  • Lead strategy and documentation for utility regulatory approvals such as VLC tariffs, CPCNs, and easements/ROVs in coordination with legal and policy teams

  • Develop an action plan to ensure a favorable outcome within the timeframe required for any regulatory and market approvals, including strategy for proactively engaging with regulators, commission staff, and key stakeholders

  • Monitor and track evolving requirements from MISO, FERC, and NERC that could impact data centers, including transmission service, interconnection constraints, and frequency ride-through standards. Develop the participation strategy in MISO to ensure favorable outcomes.

  • Represent project utility interests in meetings with utilities, external consultants, and local officials; support coalition-building with local industrial and economic development groups

  • Coordinate and lead status updates to internal leadership on utility milestones, risks, and ongoing commission or stakeholder proceedings

  • Provide input to project leaders and commercial teams on utility-related commitments, energization risks, and stakeholder impacts

  • Additional duties as assigned by Management.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business or Energy Related Field

  • 5+ years of experience in electric utility coordination, infrastructure project execution, or energy regulatory support

  • Direct experience working with Wisconsin-based utilities (e.g., WE Energies, ATC) and familiarity with local permitting and CPCN processes

  • Experience supporting regulated utility filings, project permitting, or stakeholder engagement preferred

Skills & Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of transmission planning, CPCN filings, tariff structures, and RTO (MISO) interconnection rules

  • Familiarity with Wisconsin's regulatory landscape and experience tracking or supporting utility-related proceedings

  • Skilled at coordinating cross-functional teams and managing communications with external stakeholders

  • Proficient in project tracking and reporting tools (e.g., Smartsheet, MS Project, or equivalent)

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; capable of providing regulatory input and summarizing technical issues for leadership

  • Strong project management capabilities with the ability to lead complex utility scopes through execution a plus

  • Travel required is expected to be up to 20% but may increase over time as the business evolves.
