Job Title: Regulatory Counsel Division: Compliance Reports To: Senior Regulatory Counsel - Licensing & Data Privacy Key Relationships: U.S. Regulatory and Compliance team, Underwriting, Partner Engagement, Claims Job Summary: The position involves providing legal and regulatory support to Beazley, which primarily includes supporting the Licensing & Data Privacy team. This role supports Canadian insurance licensing requirements. Additionally, all Regulatory Counsel are expected to be or become subject matter experts for regulatory questions concerning specific products that Beazley sells, e.g. cyber insurance. This role will be responsible for keeping abreast certain States regulatory requirements and horizon scanning. This requires routinely attending APCIA conference calls as well utilizing Beazley's horizon scanning tools. Regulatory Counsel research and analyse regulatory requirements, draft responses to complaints and litigation. The role requires ensuring that legislative changes are monitored and communicated to relevant personnel, performing regulatory research, and developing training materials. The position involves drafting legal documents and managing outside legal counsel. This role will routinely liaise with other departments, including the Information Security and IT departments, Finance, Underwriting and Claims. FLSA: Exempt Key Responsibilities Provide legal and regulatory support to Beazley, which includes:
- Ensure legislative changes relevant to data privacy, cybersecurity, and Artificial Intelligence are properly monitored, and that colleagues, management and affected personnel are advised accordingly.
- Draft responses to complaints filed with Departments of Insurance and/or other regulators by Property and Casualty and Accident and Sickness insureds.
- Respond to lawsuits, subpoenas, information requests, demand, and other litigation filed by insureds or third parties. This includes drafting responses, locating documents, liaising with claims, underwriting, or other internal departments, and creating litigation strategy.
- Advise on regulatory changes impacting the claims and broker department including regulator guidance, and data reporting requirement. Assist stakeholders as needed to implement changes and/or submit work product to the relevant regulators.
- Keep abreast of Canadian insurance licensing requirements and ensure Beazley remains compliant.
- Draft reports for relevant internal Boards and Committees outlining.
- Ensure legislative changes and proposals relevant to their assigned states are properly monitored, and that colleagues, management and affected personnel are advised accordingly.
- Advise on legal and regulatory issues in Canada, including company and employee licesning, claims handling, and broker agreements.
- Perform regulatory research and projects.
- Develop and implement resource and training materials and programs.
- Research and analyse laws, regulations and sub-regulatory materials.
- Provide written and verbal legal opinions on a variety of legal issues.
- Draft agreements, contracts and other legal documents.
- Communicate and negotiate with external parties (regulators, external counsel).
- Manage outside legal counsel to ensure cost effective and efficient legal services.
- Additional tasks as assigned by your manager.

Education And Qualifications
- Juris Doctor and member of the bar in good standing in at least one state.

- Strong legal research skills, with a focus on insurance regulatory research.

Knowledge and Experience
- Experience with Property and Casualty insurance and claims litigation preferred.
- Knowledge of US data privacy, security, and Artificial Intelligence regulatory landscape including CCPA, NYDFS Cybersecurity Amendments, GDPR generally, NIST standards, and HIPAA.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Understanding of the need for accurate and timely management information.

Salary for this role will be tailored to the successful individual's location and experience. The expected compensation range for this position is $138,000-$148,000 per year plus discretionary annual bonus. Don't meet all the requirements?
