Position Summary Information
Primary Purpose |
Under general direction of the Sr. Superintendent for buildings and grounds, the Custodian/Event Staff will be responsible for leading, organizing, general janitorial, custodial cleaning, and planning of the custodial team operation for University facilities. |
Essential Functions |
- Leads and oversees custodial teams, assign and schedule work assignments, apply cleaning standards and training to custodial team. Ensure quality and standards are meet via building inspections, confirm work is complete, oversee equipment and stock inventory.
- Perform janitorial tasks for assigned area, including but not limited to: sweep, scrub, mop, strip, polish, buff and wax floors; clean ceilings, walls, light fixtures, interior and exterior windows, glass partitions, and blinds; vacuum, shampoo, spot clean rugs, carpet and walk off mats; clean and dust cabinets, furniture and woodwork; empty and clean waste receptacles; polish metal work; clean and sanitize restrooms, restock restroom supplies and dispensers; clean stairways, elevators, hallways, restrooms, offices, and lobbies; turn off lights and lock doors and windows.
- Assist in moving and arranging furniture for office moves and general events.
- Replace light globes and tubes.
- Operate powered equipment; scrubbers, buffers, waxers, and other equipment as required.
- Maintain and clean automotive equipment.
- Assists maintenance and grounds personnel with tasks.
- Accountable for methods, materials, chemicals, disinfectants, and equipment used in janitorial work; safety practices in janitorial work.
- Identify and report maintenance deficiencies and repair needs to supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications |
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Experience working in a paid full-time custodial or janitorial position

May be required to climb ladders and work at elevated heights in areal lifts. Work environments could include exposure to hazards or physical risks that will require basic safety precautions. Repetitive use of hands. Heavy lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 60lbs. Bending, stretching, and reaching required. Wearing face-masks for long periods of time. Some sitting and climbing, extensive crouching, kneeling and standing. Some computer work, work order management and online safety training. Working outdoors in summer temperatures, winter rain, humidity, and dusty environments. Contact with chemicals, loud noises, and confined spaces. Require use of personal protective equipment; face-mask, hard hat, eye protection, hearing protection etc.
Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Able to work forty (40) hours per week. Able to work occasional weekends and scheduled overtime as directed by a supervisor. Respond to emergency "call backs" on occasion. Must be willing to travel on occasion.
Basic Shifts:
Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
Monday - Friday 3:00 pm - 11:30pm
Wednesday - Sunday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
Valid driver's license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University's fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record. |
Hiring Range |
$19.00 per hour. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. |
