Summary:

In this role, you will provide contracting and sourcing expertise while leading a team of portfolio executives to strengthen supplier relationships, deliver client value, and achieve the goals of Vizient's Physician Preference Items (PPI) Spend Management. You will negotiate national supplier agreements, cultivate new industry relationships, and drive competitive advantage. Additionally, you will lead strategic planning, process improvement initiatives, and talent development to support a high-performing team.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and lead the strategic direction of the Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) service line, by establishing team priorities, crafting category-specific strategies, and driving execution toward key business objectives.

  • Oversee a broad portfolio of Surgical Services medical device agreements, including new contracts, renewals, and extensions, ensuring strategic alignment and operational excellence.

  • Develop innovative strategies and leverage strong supplier relationships to drive portfolio growth and address category gaps.

  • Support category managers in creating bid and extension strategies. Use depth of experience to guide and lead tough negotiations brought to leadership.

  • Develop and mentor senior category leaders and directors by cultivating a high-performing, growth-oriented environment that promotes learning, empowerment, and strategic ownership.

  • Establish executive-level engagement with key supplier partners and serve as the primary contact for national accounts to reinforce Vizient's value. Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to strengthen supplier relationships across the enterprise.

  • Develop financial analysis and qualitative justification to evaluate strategic options, guide decision-making, and manage business unit and finance reports while ensuring accountability for annual sales and revenue targets across assigned contract portfolios.

  • Coordinate tools and resources to support the implementation and promotion of contract portfolios.

  • Execute business and negotiation strategies defined by senior leadership, while identifying categories with potential for clinical innovation and new business opportunities.

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders and the Contracting Center of Excellence to continuously improve contracting processes and operational efficiency.

  • Provide strategic guidance and subject matter expertise to clients within the service line; lead the contracting council-overseeing recruitment and meeting facilitation-to ensure alignment with client priorities.

  • Leverage Vizient's cross-functional network, including legal, finance, and analytics, to build strong internal partnerships and lead enterprise-wide initiatives that support business growth.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant degree preferred. Advanced degree desired.

  • 10 or more years of relevant experience required.

  • Healthcare sourcing or operations experience required; medical device expertise preferred.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze and interpret data, identify opportunities, develop actionable insights, and proficiently manage projects with a results-oriented mindset required.

  • Experience working with complex healthcare/hospital clients preferred.

  • Professional presence and executive communications with a successful record in developing client relationships at all levels.

  • Demonstrated business and financial acumen with the ability to assess challenges, quantify impact, and recommend strategic alternatives.

  • Strong leadership, people management, and project management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives.

  • Proven negotiation skills with experience driving favorable outcomes.

  • Willingness to travel.

Estimated Hiring Range:

At Vizient, we consider skills, experience, and organizational needs in our compensation approach. Geographic factors may adjust the range estimate and hires typically fall below the top range. Compensation decisions are tailored to individual circumstances. The current salary range for this role is $135,200.00 to $236,600.00.

This position is also incentive eligible.
