Product Engineering Manager

Position Objective

To deliver a best-in-class product that exceeds customer expectations. You will do this by leading a team of engineers responsible for the sustainment and continual improvement of the product through the entire lifecycle. You will be working on in-market products with a focus on continual product improvements, field issue resolution, customer specials, production efficiency, supply chain issue resolution, cost reduction and design quality defects.

Principal Responsibilities



  • Direct an engineering team to efficiently and effectively deliver sustainable improvements across the product lifecycle
  • Enable ongoing design improvements based on internal and external feedback, as well as applicable industry developments and innovations
  • Ensure product design meets engineering, industry, and quality standards
  • Complete technical review and approval of engineering change notices in accordance with the engineering change management process
  • Assist in implementation of critical design changes in coordination with the organization
  • Maintain product Option Logic Diagram that is used for product configuration
  • Manage product cost
  • Partner with key stakeholders to prioritize Continual Product Improvement cases
  • Manage the day to day work of the product engineering team including assigning work, reviewing changes and assessing impacts to the organization
  • Mentor and train engineers to develop their technical and application knowledge
  • Complete performance and development reviews with direct reports
  • Coordinate with offshore engineering resources as required



EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE



  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Masters degree will be advantageous.
  • Minimum of 7 years of work experience- Strong understanding of engineering principles, standards, and processes
  • Application knowledge of mobile drilling equipment or similar off-highway vehicles
  • Experience with structural design, hydraulics, low voltage (12V/24V), systems and controls, powertrain, cooling systems/thermodynamics
  • Familiarity with manufacturing of heavy equipment such as mining, construction, or agriculture products
  • Excellent technical problem solving skills - review and validate technical calculations and analysis
  • Working knowledge in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software (Siemens Teamcenter or similar)
  • Experience with PTC Creo Parametric or equivalent 3D CAD software
  • Able to generate creative solutions to problems and work in a fast-paced environment which requires multi-tasking
  • Must have the ability to prioritize/re-prioritize tasks, carry out root cause analysis, and deal with scheduling conflicts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to compile and present technical data clearly and concisely
  • Must be a decision maker who can work under minimum supervision
