Job Summary
Responsible for the ultimate sign-off of safety, operation, defensive driving, and other duties related to the Ready Mix and Aggregate Transportation for newly hired and existing drivers
Job Responsibilities
- Manage Driver Training Program in collaboration with Safety and Line Management
- Ensure effective driver orientation
- Supervise and monitor assigned driver trainers to ensure proper and consistent performance of duties
- Schedule and assign work; Coordinate and plan for daily instruction, insuring proper utilization of Driver Trainers, equipment, and prospective trainees
- Set up monthly/quarterly Driver Trainer meetings to cover information and coordinate activity with all trainers throughout the Division
- Conduct safe driving and safe working methods and procedures training programs as specifically required by CEMEX Driving Essentials
- Track new hire releases and schedule ride-alongs at 1 month and again at 6 months. Obtain and provide feedback
- Work with the Operations and Safety teams to suggest and implement new best practices within an area
- Evaluate trainees daily, make formal evaluations on a regular schedule by utilizing appropriate academic and skills tests
- Maintain accurate trainee attendance records
- Maintain accurate trainee progress records and evaluation forms
- Discuss evaluation with driver trainers and affected line managers
- Present instruction in a professional, timely and accurate manner consistent with CEMEX Truck Driver Training policies and programs
- Ensure all instructional materials are appropriate for program taught and relay recommendations for change to immediate supervisor
- Serve as a "Role Model" to all drivers as to dress code, conduct and positive attitude
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of effective teaching concepts. Ability to counsel and instruct drivers in a professional manner
- Knowledge of state and federal DOT regulations relating to ready mix, aggregates and construction materials transportation.
- Proficient in skills required to safely operate ready mix trucks, tractor-trailer (Aggregate Transport) and other diesel-powered Class A & B commercial vehicles
- Ability to prioritize workload and maintain organized records
- Ability to thoroughly assess an employee's ability to safely operate all aspects of ready mix trucks, tractor-trailers (Aggregate Transport) and other diesel powered Class A & B commercial vehicles
- Ability to utilize computer in daily operations
- Ability to meet and confer with individuals and groups concerning a variety of subjects including confidential matters.
- Ability to read and comprehend varied and extensive written documents, regulations and DOT and Safety reference material.
- Ability to delegate and follow up with driver trainers on individual assignments
- Work well under pressure and take initiative
- Must maintain regular attendance following a designated work schedule
- Must be able to work extended hours and additional days/evenings/weekends as required by responsibilities
- Must be able to attend and participate in meetings/conferences as scheduled within CEMEX and Industry Organizations
- Must be mature, tactful, and responsible to carry out training assignments to completion
- Bilingual, English and Spanish (Preferred)

- Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Able to meet stringent deadlines requiring concentrated effort and extended work schedule
- Must work on a variety of projects at the same time.
- Must be able to deal with unexpected issues as they arise and circumstances which can create high stress
Physical Requirements
- Must meet all requirements under FMCSR Part 391 - Qualifications of Drivers, as well as Part 382 - Controlled substances and Alcohol Use & Testing
- Able to safely perform lifting, handling and carrying of mixer chutes, training materials (i.e. manuals, binders) and equipment utilized in the instruction of commercial vehicle drivers
