We have an excellent opportunity for a Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) with a strong interest in Hospital Medicine. This is a 1.0 FTE position working at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran in West Union, IA. Gundersen Pulmer Lutheran is one of six critical access hospitals within the Gundersen Health System network.

This clinician will be responsible for the medical care of our hospitalized patients at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital and Clinics. Gundersen Palmer is a Critical Access Hospital that offers comprehensive care with a total of 25 beds. The hospital features a 7-bed Emergency Department with additional capacity for overflow patients. It includes a 20-bed Medical Surgical Department to support a wide range of inpatient needs, as well as a 5-bed Labor & Delivery unit dedicated to maternal and newborn care. Gundersen Palmer also operates three Family Practice Clinics that provide primary care services, including Behavioral Health support. Additionally, the hospital extends its reach through multiple outreach specialty services, enhancing access to specialized care for the community. This integrated approach allows Gundersen Palmer to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care across a variety of clinical needs. Our critical access hospitals are supported by our level ll Trauma Center, with medical management of both ground and air emergency transport.

Responsibilities will include admission H&P, daily evaluation, diagnostic and treatment decisions, discharge planning and documentation, and working with the interdisciplinary team of nurses, therapists, and social workers. Physician support will be provided through telemedicine-based oversight from the hospitalist physicians of Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.

Practice highlights:

  • Daytime 8-hour shift
  • The full-time work schedule is Monday - Friday approximately 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with ability to flex occasionally based on census.
  • Physician tele hospitalist coverage is provided by an internal medicine hospitalist team comprised of 25 physicians.
  • Tele hospitalists provide daytime supervision/support and take overnight calls and admissions.
  • The average daily census is 6 - 10 patients with acute care and post-acute care status.
