JOB TITLE: Assistant Professor in Outdoor Recreation and Tourism Management JOB PURPOSE: The University of Wyoming (UW) invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor in Outdoor Recreation and Tourism Management (ORTM) in the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources. We seek an accomplished and creative individual to conduct research, teach, and provide service consistent with UW's educational mission. Our Bachelor of Science degree in ORTM prepares students for careers at the intersection of outdoor recreation, tourism, natural resource management, and community development. Our graduate programs prepare students to become collaborative leaders in a variety of environmental and natural resource fields. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor appointment. The successful candidate will develop and maintain an active, externally funded research program in outdoor recreation, tourism, or related fields; publish in high-impact outlets; and contribute to interdisciplinary scholarship within the Haub School, the university, and the region. The Assistant Professor will teach undergraduate courses in ORTM. They will also participate in the Haub School's online and in-person Master of Science in Environment, Natural Resources, and Society programs through mentoring graduate students and leading research and scholarship activities. They will serve the School, the University, and the state of Wyoming, and engage with stakeholders within Wyoming's outdoor recreation and tourism industry. The Assistant Professor may work closely with the Jay Kemmerer WORTH Institute for sponsored research projects as an affiliated faculty member. We seek candidates with a demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary and applied teaching and research; strong communication and relationship-building skills; and the ability to contribute to the advancement of the Haub School's mission and vision. Preferred candidates will have academic experience in the outdoor recreation field through past teaching, participation in interdisciplinary programs, and/or experience working with stakeholders from different backgrounds including those from rural or urban communities with fewer financial and political resources. The Haub School's faculty maintain active research or creative programs that address environmental and natural resources questions from both disciplinary and interdisciplinary perspectives. The Haub School is also affiliated with and an integral part of the Jay Kemmerer Wyoming Outdoor Recreation Tourism and Hospitality (WORTH) Institute at UW which interfaces with the ORTM degree through research, funding, and partnerships. The WORTH Institute fosters sustainable growth in Wyoming's outdoor recreation, tourism, and hospitality sectors through extension and outreach, applied research, and workforce development.
