The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

Pharmacy Technician Specialty for the ED must communicate effectively and utilize appropriate interviewing skills to allow for the complete medication history taking. The individual reviews the currently documented external prescription history, and contact patients' retail pharmacies and utilizes other resources to resolve any medication concerns while maintaining electronic medication databases in both the ED and main pharmacy. In this role, the technician will evaluate the patient's medication list for completion and identify if discrepancies/duplication of therapy exist.

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Evening Shift
  • Part-Time
  • 20 hours per week

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school graduate or equivalent required, Associates degree or Bachelor of Science preferred
  • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the NJ Board of Pharmacy in good standing
  • 1 year of retail pharmacy experience preferred
  • National CPhT certification required within 1 year of employment

Essential Functions:

  • The technician will interview the patient or their family members to obtain an accurate medication history
  • The technician will also need to review the currently documented external prescription history and contact the patient's retail pharmacy to resolve any medication concerns
  • In addition, they will need to update and reconcile the patient's home medication list in the EMR and document all transactions
  • Good communication skills are required for interviewing patients and their families, as well as relaying the use of non-formulary medications to the pharmacist taking care of the patient
  • The pharmacist can then verify the patient's own medication or convert it to a formulary equivalent when possible
  • Having a working knowledge of healthcare informatics is vital for the entry and documentation of their daily activities in the electronic medical record
