Position: Electrical Controls Engineer Location: Gallatin, TN Job Type: Full-Time Travel: Up to 30% of the time (across the US) Job Summary: We're looking for an experienced Electrical & Controls Engineer to join our team focused on industrial finishing and dispensing systems. In this role, you'll design and program automation solutions from the ground up-including PLCs, HMIs, and robotic systems-while ensuring compliance with NEC, NFPA, CSA, and other relevant codes.
Key Responsibilities: * Design and develop electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical * Apply applicable codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, CSA) to industrial electrical system designs * Manage electrical and control aspects of assigned engineering projects from concept through commissioning * Interpret customer specifications and scopes of work to develop compliant electrical/control systems * Specify and select appropriate electrical components to meet project and application requirements * Develop and implement PLC and HMI programs from scratch, including control logic and user interfaces * Program and integrate robotic systems (Fanuc preferred; ABB, Motoman, Kuka experience also applicable) o Perform path and sequence programming, I/O integration, and safety interlocks * Configure and program control devices such as servo drives, safety scanners, light curtains, and vision systems * Conduct system I/O checks and support on-site equipment installation and startup * Collaborate with mechanical engineering, project management, and operations teams to meet project milestones * Support project estimation and proposal development for electrical and controls components * Provide mentorship and training to junior engineers and technicians * Ensure adherence to internal design and quality standards throughout project execution Requirements: * Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or other combined relevant experience * 5+ years experience in industrial controls design and programming * Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical and PLC/HMI development platforms (e.g., Rockwell) * Knowledge of industrial safety and electrical codes (NFPA 70/79, NEC, CSA) * Experience with robotic integration in finishing/dispensing systems (Fanuc strongly preferred) * Ability to travel approximately 30% of the time, dependent on the project schedule * Possess the ability to lead, teach and/or mentor colleagues in specific area of product expertise * Proven experience of primary product category overlap and understand impact to product crossover in system solutions * Up to date on industry trends, direction, advancements, and/or regulations * Proven technical and/or mechanical aptitude * Proven experience in utilizing skills to solve customer problems and assist sales staff * Powerful sense of urgency and accountability * Proven customer relationship building skills * Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills * Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams) * Ability to understand written and oral English and be proficient with computer, email, spreadsheets and look up documents online * A Strong "team attitude" with the ability to work productively in group settings with other associates, customers, and vendors * A commitment to the concept of "doing it right the first time" * Valid Driver's License * Aptitude to read parts manuals, vendor catalogs, understand blueprints, and communicate technical information effectively * Must be able to work in an industrial and manufacturing environment daily, as required * Ability to work in environments that may include: * Moving mechanical parts * Fumes or airborne particles * Chemicals and solvents * Electrical equipment Physical Demands
