Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Associate Chaplain, Per Diem.
In this role, the successful candidate Provide spiritual care to patients, their loved ones, and as appropriate, staff and hospital constituencies using an inter-faith model of care and working within the patient's belief and value system.

Function in such a manner that reflects the mission and vision of the institution. Assess patient and family spiritual
needs and assist patients and families in using their spiritual resources in dealing with illness, trauma, and stress.
Facilitate additional spiritual/religious support from community religious leaders, including specific sacramental or
religious needs. Respond to codes and traumas when designated as the chaplain carrying the daily code pager.
Develop a plan of care and provide spiritual/emotional support to patients and families, such as a listening
presence, prayer, reading sacred texts, offering ethical guidance, and sacraments.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Provide on-call coverage for all spiritual care requests, responding to pages by telephone as soon as possible and
within 5 minutes. Triage the needs of the situation to determine if the request needs a chaplain to come in or if it
can be addressed at the start of normal business hours.
Participate in the department's plan of continuous quality improvement. Ensure a safe environment and effectively
communicate with all age groups of patients served by the department. Adhere to Standards of Practice of the
Association of Professional Chaplains and the principles and practices of Outcome Oriented Chaplaincy..
Document all chaplaincy activities in a timely manner according to department protocols. Complete administrative
tasks with expectation of computer literacy and in accordance with institutional policy.
Lead spirituality/study/bereavement support groups, and worship opportunities, including interfaith memorial
services, as assigned by the manager.
Advise director of important patient/clinical issues as they arise. If the request for spiritual care exceeds the
resources or ability of the chaplain to address the situation, the chaplain escalates the issue to the director, or a
staff chaplain.
Promote an interdisciplinary approach to spiritual care. Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, when possible, and
facilitate and maintain positive communication and a working relationship between the department of pastoral care
and members of the health care team, and other departments. Provide support to clinical and support staff, as
individuals request it, or through institutional events such as Nurse Appreciation Week, or when groups request it
after traumatic events or loss.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify, you must have a Bachelor of Arts in religious or pastoral counseling studies, from an accredited school of theology, or equivalent. Successful completion of 2 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)recognized by the US Department of Education required. Computer literacy and a skill level in Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, and Power Point Required. Excellent communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills required. Substantial time spent with students from other disciplines, CPE, Interns and Volunteers, hospital staff, patients and families, requiring a high degree of emotional energy and mental alertness required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree in theology from an accredited school preferred. Successful completion of 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)recognized by the US Department of Education preferred. In process of ordination or commissioning by recognized religious group preferred. 1 - 2 years Experience as clergy or chaplain preferred.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $28.00 - $28.00 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
