Job Description |
Performs outdoor/indoor plant cable installation and cable preparation tasks, such as installation of transmit/receive instrumentation, and stripping protective covers and shielding away from fiber optic and copper core center cables.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Outside plant work will include work on telephone poles, in manholes, installing messenger cable, lashing fiber optic cable to the messenger, working with self-supporting cable, installing outdoor cable in a conduit system to include the installation of pulling cord, clearing/cleaning conduit, and pulling fiber optic cables into the building. * Installation of indoor cable shall include working with multimode and single mode plenum and riser cables, current category Ethernet, and mounting/anchoring them to stay in position. * Works with Category 5 & 6 cables, Fiber Distribution Centers (FDC), fiber optic Intrabuilding and Interbuilding design, installation, and troubleshooting. * Performs troubleshooting and installations on all kinds of security surveillance systems, microwave systems, RF systems, CCTV Video and Audio Systems and fiber optic networks. * Proficient in video and still camera operation and is proficient in the interrelationships of the camera and wiring circuits including setup and operation of the termination and tests equipment. * Uses electronic troubleshooting instrumentation such as multimeters and fiber optic power meters in order to troubleshoot and repair breaks in all types of signal transmission media to include RG58, RG59, single and multimode fiber cables, current category Ethernet patch cables, and audio cables. * Proficient in the connector types, preparation techniques for splices and connector instrumentation such as fiber optic fusion, splicers, and mechanical camsplices. * Performs OTDR testing to determine cable loss, cable length, and problems within the cable. * Performs RJ45 testing to include checking the cable for shorts, crosstalk, incorrect terminations, and noise. * Selects material required, and adapts plans, techniques or layouts of buildings or test ranges to best perform installations. * Contacts personnel in related activities to resolve problems and help coordinate the work; reviews, analyzes, and integrates the technical work of others. * Plans or assists in planning of Interbuilding and Intrabuilding fiber optic installs, CCTV Systems, and security surveillance systems to include both video and audio components. * Performs inventory management and prepares supply requests. * Work is reviewed for compliance with accepted practices. |
Qualifications |
Required Skills and Qualifications
* Must have 5 yr. applicable experience firing weapons or equivalent test and evaluation range experience or at least 60 credit hours or an associate degree and 3 yrs. applicable experience; or 30 credit hours and 4 yrs. applicable experience; or completion of a formal training program and 3 yrs. applicable experience; or a bachelor's degree and 1year applicable experience. * Shall possess basic computer skills. * Shall possess professional training, with certificate, in the area of Fiber Cable Termination Practices. * 50% Shall possess Fiber Optic Installation for Local Area Networks training. * 50% Shall possess Fiber Optic Installation for Outside Plant Applications training. * 50% Shall possess Passive Fiber Optic System Design for Local Area Networks training. * 50% Shall possess Surveillance Video Camera Installation training.
Physical Qualifications
* The work of this position is performed in the field where you are subject to the environment and sometimes in an environmentally controlled office environment. * Must be capable of sitting and entering data on a computer keyboard for extended periods of time. * Must be able to view computer monitor for extended periods of time. * Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs. unassisted. * Must be able to distinguish colors. * Must be able to ascend and descent equipment. * Must be capable of frequent squatting, crouching, and stooping. * Must have good manual dexterity. * Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned. * Reasonable accommodation can be made to enable people with disabilities to perform the duties and responsibilities.
Terms of Employment & Eligibility Requirements
* Must be a U.S. Citizen. * Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. * Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions. * Must pass a pre-employment drug screening periodic retest. * Must be able to successfully complete a background screening. * Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment.

Rate of Pay/Benefits
Hourly Rate: $49.61
