Job Description
Responsibilities
- Leads a high performing gift planning program, informing key strategies for gift planning including gift acceptance, gift documentation, prospecting, marketing, and stewardship.
- Meets metrics established with supervisor on an annual basis for metrics including but not limited to number of prospect or donor meetings, major gift solicitations, and dollars raised.
- Qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of 125-150 planned gift prospects.
- Works with alumni and friends to develop, document and secure various planned gifts to benefit UMSL, including bequests, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, retirement accounts, real estate, gifts of securities, and other tax-advantaged gift methods.
- Serve as Office of Development liaison with University of Missouri System Offices of the Treasurer and Legal Counsel to coordinate processes and documentation within System guidelines.
- Routinely collaborates with External and Donor Relations team for planned giving donor recognition and stewardship efforts (1963 Legacy Society).
- Successfully works with volunteer leaders, including the Legacy Council (with AVC Development).
- Maintains knowledge on gift documentation practices. Submits gift forms and agreements within established timeframes and ensures consistent accuracy.
- Maintains knowledge of laws and professional standards that govern the recording, receipting, and reporting of charitable planned gifts.
- Routinely collaborates with Gift Officers (approximately 10-12 individuals), including annual giving, leadership, and major gift officers, to plan for and solicit prospects capable of making a planned gift within their respective portfolios. Periodically provides internal training and education to Advancement staff on trends and best practices in gift planning.
- Establishes gift planning pipeline in collaboration with leadership annual giving and major gift officers utilizing prospect research and data analysis.
- With Advancement Communications, plan and execute high caliber planned gift materials, including campaigns, postcards, donor stories, and other print, web, and digital collateral.
- Coordinates with Advancement Services in the maintenance and accuracy of planned giving donor records within Advancement database, file records or other records systems.
- Represents the entire range of university fundraising priorities to planned gift prospects.
- Develops strategic fundraising plans and executes on major, high-profile gift and fundraising initiatives.
- Effectively and proactively communicates with donors, colleagues, and university leadership verbally, in writing, or through a variety of presentations.
- Manages budget and best practices for supporting the department and division for budgeting donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Implements policies and practices for the area, continually evaluating and improving the gift planning program by staying current on technical developments in industry practices.
- Develops and submits Annual Business Plan; sets functional priorities and allocates budgetary and staff resources to align with business objectives and annual plan(s).
- Report and track fundraising progress through the use of contact reports, prospect and moves management, and other communication and planning tools in the CRM.
- Reviews data and pulls reports to utilize for decision making.
- Travels locally and regionally for donor appointments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Shift
Monday-Friday with occasional evenings and weekends
Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
- Must be able to travel locally and regionally and periodically work evenings or weekends.
- Must be able to maintain data management standards including data confidentiality, CRM entry requirements, and utilize reporting tools.
- Demonstrated success closing major gift funding, including face-to-face solicitation of gifts.
- Ability to develop effective partnerships with internal and external constituencies.
- Ability to build and maintain positive constituent and colleague relationships through constructive communication skills and professionalism.
- Ability to work with people from a variety of backgrounds.
- Effective communication skills including the ability to write and speak persuasively about the institution.
- Strong interpersonal and motivational skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently while also working as a member of the University Advancement team.
Preferred Qualifications
CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) is preferred, but not required
Anticipated Hiring Range
Salary Range: 85,000-95,000 Grade: GGS- 012 University Title: Internal applicants can determine their University title by accessing the Talent Profile tile in myHR.
